deer was not very large
Those ******** things can do more damage, I lived in Wyoming for years. Maybe that deer was looking for a Mercedes, but it found the BMW.

On the way home from work that evening, someone or something dragged it 40’ to the farmers fence. There were about 20 Ravens having a feast.
Where abouts did you tag the deer.I hate going through the coolie west of town on the way over to Cochrane after dark, seems to be more deer in that stretch then most places.

explanation of my Post above:

I had looked for the pix of the Deer down in Australia, i did not find it.

The Autobahn Deer in Germany, looked close to the same.
Just different car brands.
There was a comment about the German Deer's Size
The comment said that German deer are about the size of a German Shepard.

watch out for flying objects ............ !!

A few years ago we were on I-29 after dark and standing in the median were 2 deer. I wonder to this day if they made it across without being hit?
Made me think of my immortal days when I would drive from Ne. to Ca. straight through except for gas stops. 100mph on I-80 with 1 candle power headlights.
Our last time out that way there were areas in Wyoming that were just about solid red. I used to prefer driving at night, not so much anymore  :sleepy:

Damn near hit a Holstien cow tonight coming in to work...
Even with a brush guard I can imagine that may have totaled my Powerwagon...

Remind me to not follow you in your truck.

Do you usually have cows on the road or were you using a famous shortcut?

Tons of whitetails, but no cows usually, though I do drive past several farms on my way in to work...
My daily commute is 25 miles of rural Iowa farmland.

I used to live in Wyoming and worked all over the place with lots of wildlife. I worked with a guy that had hit 9 deer in his life. Early and late in the day expect animals to be on the road. At night they can show up any time and are harder to see.

At deer thirty and at night our rule was to drive below the speed limit. We would always have a spotter in the passenger seat. Hitting a deer causes damage to your truck. Hitting an elk, a horse or worse yet a moose can come in through the windshield and kill people.

Be alert. Modern headlights are much better for spotting animals. Don't drive impaired in game country. In Nevada we have a lot of horses and cattle on the road at night. They are big animals compared to deer and can really wreck vehicles.

Driving fast over the crest of a hill is not a good idea.

My best deer-hit story was I was in a rush to get to the dentist. 10 AM nice sunny day in the fall. Jetta TDI. Dentist office is 1/2 hr away, I have it timed out pretty well.

I drive through a particular town and get up to 60 on a nice newly re-done state highway. Plenty of room on each side to see. And there weren't any trees in this area anyway, just empty fields. Suddenly, out from the tall grass (in the ditch) ..the only tall grass along the road, dart 3 deer. Full speed. I hit the brakes HARD immediately but they were spread out, there was no way to evade them. The first deer was slightly ahead and I managed to miss that one. The second deer I clipped pretty lightly on the front pass corner, and spun it around. The third trailing deer whacked right into my passenger's door. It did a face-plant right across the pass window. I could literally see the "Oh Crap!! look on the deer's face and in it's eyes! It was the strangest thing! That short moment slowed down in time.

I didn't have time to stop, and dilly-dally, or I'd be late. I'd probably be late as it was, and still had 20 min to go. So I kept going. I could see in the Rear view mirror, the deer didn't look hurt, just stunned ....and scampered back where they came. Not even limping.

The whole way there I kept thinking to myself, "Darn! That's had to cream the side of the car!!" I finally get there, park and get out to observe the damage as I head into the dentist office. Darn if there wasn't one scratch or observable dent! A little fur up by the headlight and near the door handle. That was it! I was stunned. I assumed it was going to be quite pushed in. The deer must have hit it just right.

It was a busy workweek. About a week later I was driving home in the dark on a rural road, and it occurred to me, I forgot to call the insurance company and let them know because I did later detect the door handle was pushed in a little on the pass side. Just as I *thought* that sentence, a big buck ran across the road and I hit it pretty hard! IDT I killed it. It didn't cream the vehicle, just dented the hood and fender. Between those two deer hits and the bodyshop found a couple dents in the rear quarter panel they said looked like deer hoof dents (they weren't but I didn't raise my hand) I got 3/4 of the car repainted.

But yeah, IDT any deer were killed in this collision, but I'll never forget the look on that deer's face that planted against the pass window!! :)

I've never hit a deer (knock on wood) but I've had deer hit me.

First one was in HS on the way home in rural central WI. I was getting a ride from another guy who was driving a Delta 88, a really boat with steel bumpers. The deer ran into the back qtr and the steel bumper edge took a nice steak off that deer, it kept on running, but left a nice slab of meat on the rear bumper. The guy was a bit of a tree hugger and wanted to find the deer, it was long gone, hardly any blood on the bumper.

The 2nd one was in southern IN, I was leaving the job site and a deer busted out of the corn field right next to the road and slammed right into the driver side A pillar, back end swung around and dented in drivers door breaking the latch mechanism, so door was stuck closed. I was in a company car at the time, so I had to drive it back home like that before it go fixed, a few pieces of hair were left in the door handle, Deer kept on running, I reported it as a hit and run because the deer never stopped to give me any information. Thankfully a co-worker was right behind me in his car and saw the whole thing and corroborated my story to the office.

Its amazing how much damage they can do, fortunately I've never actually hit one, I hope it stays that way.

Worst I ever hit was a Roadrunner driving from Phoenix to Vegas. And another time hit a skunk. Took forever to get rid of the smell in the car.
When i was still a little kid,my Grandfather used to come out and run a combine to help out during harvest, and he picked up a skunk in the swathes and it went through the header, and then plugged the feeder bar on the combine,we needed that combine back up and running, and it was my job to crawl in the damn thing and clear that tore up skunk out of the feeder,i still remember the stink to this day,and it's been 55 years since it happened.:(That combine stank for probably the next 3 harvests afterwards  :Big Laugh:

When I was in high school there was a girl who hit a cow which had gotten out ..one foggy morning on the way to school. Our school was rural (literally not in any town) so you HAD to drive there. Cow went through the windshield. She missed a bunch of school but recovered.

People around here have hit black Amish horse-drawn buggies and that never works out well for anyone in the buggies. It's not difficult to do. You come over a hill and you can be on them quick... And they don't really always travel on the far Rt side of the road. It's scary to think of.

Things amiss with the repair: The bolt that holds the plastic trim under the passenger headlight was loose. The high beam bulb inside the new passenger headlight wasn't twisted tight and was flopping around. The important parts seem tight and in place. Apparently I chose the lower rated car repair shop in Airdrie.

You can also see the shiny AC condenser, the $1000 frame for the AGS system the truck doesn't have, the $428 washer pump... They also had the block heater cable attached to the drivers tow hook. Rerouting that through the grille.

It's nice to have a properly painted bumper that's not delaminating. Wonder how long that will last. Here's an older pic of the bad bumper paint.

very nice bumper by the way. is it painted by the body shop? if so do they use a different paint than the factory style non-automotive grade paint lol?
