I took the keys in this morning and gave them to the service manager. I explained to him the whole situation (because he was on vacation) and told him I'd rather start over with a new truck, and I wanted to have a pow wow with him and the store manager and he said the manager was in meetings and he'd have to call me after he was done. Well apparently the store manager approved for me to get a different truck. I got a call from the salesman that sold me the truck today and he asked what I wanted and he would look for a replacement. I told him exactly what I had, but not butchered. I am meeting with the store manager tomorrow, so we'll see what he has to say.

That's an excellent first step towards resolution.

Keep us up to date on this!

I met with the manager and told him the whole story from the beginning. He was very apologetic, and did say they never get come backs from this particular tech and he was surprised about what had happened. He did offer to take my truck back and find me a used one just like mine, but said it would be hard to locate one like mine with similar miles, options, color, etc. and might take a while to find one I approve of. He offered me a "screaming" deal on a new one, but I still would have to pay over $5k difference. My other option was to keep my truck, and he would give me a lifetime Chrysler bumper to bumper warranty, plus I had him agree to refunding my wife for the remote start she paid for. Paying more money for a new truck did not appeal to me at all since essentially mine was new, and who knows how long it would take for them to find a used one I approved of. I decided to give them a shot to correct their screw ups and fix my truck and take the lifetime warranty and remote start refund. They gave me a loaner truck to use for my trip to ID this weekend, and I told them to take as long as they need to fix my truck but I wanted it done right and didn't want any more issues. I hope I made the right decision!!

I think that was the right decision especially since you have the truck you wanted and a replacement may not be the same as or it could take a while.

I agree...fix yours, take the warranty, use the remote start for free and let them make it right.

They must be having issues fixing the overheating problem, because I still haven't heard anything from the service manager after I told him what other members on this forum are seeing for engine temps. He was thinking 220 degrees without towing anything was normal, and I told him most members were seeing that towing a heavy load.

What was the highest coolant temp your engine got to while it was overheating? 220 for a modern engine is within the normal range, depending on driving habit and ambient temp. Im not 100% sure with the 6.4 for what's average for coolant temps though, haven't looked into it.

255 degrees, audible alarm and "engine temp hot" on display.

The hottest I've seen mine is 214 or so, most times it is around 206 to 208. Oil temp gets to 220 or so though with normal driving, my 5.7 hemi ran there though.

I'm happy to report that I've put a bit over 1,000 miles on the truck since the engine replacement and there have been no problems.

Road trip next week!

I also got my truck back Friday, bounced it through the hills to go shooting Saturday and hooked up to my pontoon and towed it out to the lake Sunday with no issues! Temps seem to be in the normal range, and truck runs great! When the service manager dropped it off at my work, it was detailed inside and out, and with a full tank of gas! They did make it right and fix all the issues I had at the start, so I'm happy. Now that I finally have my truck I'm looking at goodies to "make it mine".

I'd still like a video of these fixed trucks so I can hear if mine really is normal sounding.

Thanks

Can someone post a video of their trucks running. And rev the engine quickly a few times. Mine makes a crazy high pitched ticking hiss when I do this. Like to see if it's normal, like the dealer says it is. They say it's the injectors and lifters together making the noise.

Thanks in advance.

Anything.....cause I'm really starting to hate the sound it's making. I don't even like to roll windows down cause I hear all the chatter. Unless it's supposed to sound this way I'm hating the truck the more I drive it. I don't want to hate it. It's the best looking truck out there.

I hear a tick when I have my windows down. Nothing with them up. Seems to be worst when it is first started, but I don't think it ever really goes away. Irritates me as well, but I'm not sure that it isn't just the normal noise from the HD. My only peace of mind is hoping it becomes fairly inaudible after putting duals on.

Go to a dealership that has a 6.4 and drive it. A crappy youtube video that most likely is recorded by a cell phone most likely won't help much.
