Nice. Let the cutting begin...
My truck:
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9l V8
When you remove the exhaust system from the manifold back....do you start from manifold or the rear (tailpipes, muffler)?
Common sense (me): The Rear
......vs......
Backyard Mechanic (boyfriend): The Manifold
My thoughts:
Sawsall between the muffler and the big cat, remove from hangers and pull it out, then unbolt the y-pipe thing and pull it out....throw it in the recycle bin. Open boxes, install new.
His:
I know what I'm doing.
RamForum your thoughts please...
I’m not surprised that your BF wants to finish in the rear. Worth a shot IMO

In all of this, does your BF have any experience with these trucks? It’s true what you said, common sense would have you start from the back-forward. I have messed with my exhaust so many times and not once (even first time) did I ever think of starting from the engine. That’s like saying you walk before you crawl. Hope it turns out the way you want it too and good luck!
I start by pulling into my local muffler shop and end by writing a check...
I second that, I just taker over to the father’s shop and he does it right after a few words with this son! lolI know my limitations!
Welding ain't my strong suit...
As a father, I can relate to that. Talked my son into 100K warranty on his new Ram 4 years, ago and service at the dealer. Best money he ever spent.I second that, I just taker over to the father’s shop and he does it right after a few words with this son! lol
