So I'm looking for a new throttle body, and can't decide who to go with. I've got a 2012 5.7L, and BBK, Mopar Performance, and such all seem to be running between 4 and 5 hundred, but fastman is closer to three. Any reason not to just let Fastman port my existing one? Do I even need to go to 85mm?

I don't think you need to go to a larger TB unless you open up the heads, get a higher lift/duration cam or go with forced induction.

whether you need to go 85 or not, I believe that's the standard size boring for all aftermarket tb's so why not? Probably the most likely reason to go 85 is you don't really see any benefits from anything smaller.

If you're ok with not being able to drive your truck for a few days, go ahead and send him your TB to be modified, it'll be cheaper so no reason not to.

And as far as who to go through, I've been looking at this since August of 2010 and I still haven't made up my mind. Since I started looking at these I have settled on one of two and it's either fastman with the straight taper bore from 85 to 80mm or it'll be Modern Muscle with a venturi design which depending on your throttle position, your bore is either 80, 83, or 85 mm.

I haven't looked at BBK or mopar performance as they didn't have one I believe when I initially started looking way back then but I've heard nothing but good things about both of these TB's and whenever I make up my mind and buy one, I'll be happy.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if there were other sizes. I'm more familiar with carbs than fuel injection. Since my fiancée and I each have a 5.7 powered truck, and I want to port both, looks like fast man is the way to go. I can just send it in and he says he does same day turnaround, so I figure I'll be carpooling for only a few days.

Looks like fast an does a core exchange, so you may not have to be without your Hemi at all. Just buy the new TB, ask what the core deposit is, and when you send your old one they refund the money. I think this is what I'm going to do. Might happen this week. If so, I'll let you know how it goes.

Fastman doesn't do core's for the hemi TB's, he says that in the ordering info paragraph.

"I do not have a core exchange on the Hemi TB's. Your Hemi TB can be sent to me for professional porting or I can provide a Brand New one from Dodge that I can modify. I can normally turn it around same to next day service. I use USPS Priority Mail or USPS Express Mail for shipping it back."

going to a larger TB is just like freeing up the restrictions in the exhaust. The TB he wants to go with compliments bolt on mods like CAI and an exhaust that flows more freely. It's tapered to go from 85mm at the opening down to the stock width of 80mm. Now if you were going to do heads, cam, and FI...then you would go with a larger one that goes from 85mm to 84mm.

To me, saying you don't need a larger TB is like saying you don't need a better y-pipe, headers, true dual, cutouts, CAI's, or anything that replaces the stock stuff.

Hmm... I guess reading IS fundamental. Looks like I'm buying a whole setup then. Cause I ain't gonna stop driving my truck.

But to be purely honest, do we really NEED any of this ****?? Just saying...

I can't agree fully.

A quality exhaust, freely open quality headers, a top notch CAI, quality custom tune and a bigger TB..... you'll be [absolutely] blown away by the performance!

Sure, us 4th Gen owners have no tune available [as yet] but, even if you were to elliminate that from the equation above, you'll still be very [very] impressed.

I'm a HUGE fan of TB's.... but not on their own.

PS: Fastman's products are top notch!

Oh yea, guess I forgot to throw that little part in...still recovering from a hang over, lol...

I don't actually need any of those things but I'm the type of person that can't leave well enough alone so I want to mod my truck to have one of the best one's around. Hell, I'm going to be modding my truck until the day I get rid of it and I'm willing to bet that whatever replaces it, will get modded too no matter what it is, lol.

No, you guys totally answered my question. I can't leave well enough alone either. I love tinkering, with just about anything, honestly. I once built an exhaust for my dads Troy-Bilt lawn mower.

It didn't work.

Go with the fastman TB. The design is better & it's cheaper. From what I could tell fastman has same features as other TB but his is better because it eliminates the bar that goes across TB opening which will make the air go across easier.
