Time for tires, any one running the Nitto G3's?

Just went through my second set of AT3W's and can't get more than 30K out of them (discount/tire rack warrantied them).

Overall I am happy with the AT3W's, BUT, they are heavy, aggressive and honestly I was not blown away by the snow performance, especially packed snow.

I hear the AT4W's have less sipping to increase tread life so I am not looking to run those and honestly want to try a different tire at this time.

SO

The Nitto G3's are the top of my list (275/60/20) and wondering if anyone is running them/has feedback.

Second runner up are the Cooper Road and Trails. We put a set on our company 22' Ram 1500 (275/55/20) and they are a very nice tire. My worry with these is that they seem soft and my truck eats tires, well I drive it more like a car than a truck which does not help.

No, I don't want a highway tire like the Defenders.
No, I don't want a super aggressive off road tire.

I just want a good, solid, road oriented AT tire to use my truck as a truck, especially when the snow flies.

I've had good luck with Toyo brand tires. I run them on both my truck and my Dodge Caravan. I find the summer tire to be a bit noisy but, I'm almost deaf so a bit of noise lets me know they are still turning.

The more aggressive the tread, the faster they wear. If they are aggressive AT tread, and long wear, their traction is poor. It is a trade off I know I have to make and just put up with it to get the traction I want. I wish it wasn't so.

I run Duratracs because my PU spends 70%+ of its time not on pavement. For your purpose, the longest AT tread life I ever got was from BF Goodrich All- Terrains. Good traction on road, okay traction off road.

My AT3Ws were getting old so I swapped to AT4Ws this summer, obviously haven't had them in the snow yet but I'm confident they'll do well for my usage. They are heavy for sure though.

I was cross shopping them against the KO3s. Maybe Open Country's or the Kuhmo Road Venture's might fit your needs?

I'm on my second set of Nitto Dura Grappler.

I will be getting the G3 next because I'll be doing less towing and highway driving.

Nittos are well made tires. One way I can tell is that all my tires hold air pressure well. And when they do lose air pressure they do so equally.

The G3 is new in many ways - compound and design.

Tire Rack did a decent test. They did not like the snow performance. Their winter update came out after I got mine.
I like them. Yet to drive in winter conditions. They really shine in the wet. Fine in mild off-road. I went with the standard load so not too heavy. A little noisier and slightly stiffer ride than my original Wrangler Fortitude HT but to be expected for an AT tire.

I have no need for an aggressive tire, my truck is mainly used for commuting and weekend duty they requires a truck.
Mild offloading = orchard, fields or dirt roads.

Love the look of a nice aggressive tire, hate the noise and on road manors.

I ran (2) sets of 295/70/17 trail grapplers on my 08' manual powerwagon, got maybe 25K out of them. But they were a fantastic tire for my needs at the time excepts for the noise on the occasional highway trip.

I stayed away from the Terra G2's on this truck due to reports of poor wet traction and the stock good years being dangurous in rain. The G3's seems to solve this.

Ever since I did the headers my truck in the snow is more of a handful to drive, tires break free way more easily.

BUT, I can "drive" in the snow and enjoy fishtailing and drifting...as long as it is predictable.

That being said, reading up on the link provided and the weak snow/winter performance of the G3 the coopers are now at the top of the list!

You said in your first post that you don't want a highway type tread, you want an AT. That AT tread, like that on the Terra G3, is significantly more aggressive than a Defender type tread, thus you will NEVER get as good mileage out of an AT and they will be noisier.

I repeat from my first post, if you get a high mile AT tire, it will be hard, less syping, with lousy wet, snow and ice traction. You cannot have it both ways. Given how you use the PU I do not understand why a highway tread is not the choice.

I have bought HERCULIES TIRES . I have had then on 4 different RAMs and they have been worth the money. Not the highest priced tires somewhere in-between. Lasted good and tred life has been just perfect for snow, ice and rain. I live on 1 mile of rock and gravel and they hold up well. The 10 ply's are not rough and a smooth ride

Check out the Continental Terrain Contact. They’re quiet. Good wet and dry traction. Got 60,000+ out of my first set.

My truck only has 76K on it and I don't do a lot of highway trips so an "HT tire" does not suit my needs.

I bought a truck mainly for around town/commuting locally to work and winter duty.

If there is an emergency and I need to get somewhere I want the piece of mind knowing I can get there in my truck, I.E. a good AT tire fits this need for me.

Furthermore I was not a fan of the KO1's that came on my PW, I honestly thought they sucked compared to the Trail Grapplers I replaced them with.

Additionally the KO2's only come in "D" rated and the KO3's are not getting good reviews.

Back on topic, I only spoke about (2) tires that I was considering with the focus on anyone running the G3. With the link supplied earlier my focus has shifted to the Coppers and will look into them further.

Thanks everyone, and if you are running the G3's please keep posting your feed back here.

I'm running BFG's KO2's 35 x 12.5 on my PW. The tread wear is excellent and they are decent off road and in snow.

am I the only one who puts on snow tires in the winter? what is this aversion to not running 2 sets of tires during the year.? I gave up looking for a unicorn all season long lasting, quiet rain/snow a/t tire long ago. now it's snow tires in the fall and a/t in the spring.and I save myself the headache.if you don't have room most tire shops store your winter tires for you.my atv and my side by side each have 3 sets of tires, snow, mud and trail.

When I was a kid in the seventies, my family owned a service/gas station .
When the weather turned cold , we would be overwhelmed with people coming in to have their winter tires switched to the vehicle.
We only had a couple folks that would have separate wheels , most needed to be broke and remounted.

I received lots of ribbing from the locals that hung around , that my skinny little @$$ needed to have a concrete block tied to it for a counterweight.

This was my favorite time of year , as a pre-teen , teenager, I made lots of money . For a young kid.

Several years later I entered a vocational technical school for automotive mechanics.
The school had the same Coats tire machine that I grew up with , needless to say I taught all the other students and our instructor how to properly use that machine.

I've been running these for at least 50K miles intalled in November of 2020. BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 D. These are a light truck tire that i figured had extra meat on the tires so I replaced the Cooper AT3's with them. AT3's always had slow leaks...I assumed it was from the bead !! Good luck...price for these looks like $250/

I’ve had BFG KO2s, Cooper Discovers and now Toyo OC AT3s. The Toyos started humming a bit around 30K miles, like they all do. Have 45K on them now and guessing another 10K or 15K to go. My use is primarily city/highway driving. Pull a boat a couple of miles every now and then. They’ve been just fine on water, ice & snow. I think they have an AT4 now but haven’t seen any reviews. I’ll probably buy another set of AT3s in the next year.
