Timing chain issues

I am doing the timing chains in my .2002 ram 4.7. I am worried about bent valves and I am wondering the best easiest way to find out if I have any bent valves. Also wondering about changing out the cams I heard sone where that you could put later model cams in it to get a performance boost is that true and if so which cams will work

A 2002 truck is a 2nd generation, so you might get more responses, and faster, posting in the 2nd gen forum.

But, If your engine is still assembled and you havn't started stripping it apart yet, A compression test will reveal bent valves. You can get a compression gauge and just about any auto parts store, just read the instructions and watch some Youtube videos before you use it.

Supposedly the 09 to 13 cams will work in the earlier 4.7's and give a boost in power,but i've never actually tried it,just repeating what the rumour mill used to claim years ago
