Have a rebuilt 4.7 with roughly 32K mi on the new engine. Recently started hearing a knocking in the passenger side of the engine. Originally thought it was a cracked valve or a collapsed lifter but there was no misfire. After having it looked at I was told the timing tensioner fell down. Was wondering how hard of a fix this would be or if it'd be worth just taking somewhere.

It is not a supper sized job. Basically you remove the intake, coolant, rad, AC compressor, alternator, water pump and them the front of the the engine. Then you can see what it needs done. If you have basic mechanic knowledge you can do it. I did it in about 2 hours. But i've done it a couple of times. On the exact same truck. At the same age. lol.

Well coming from my dad(who hasnt worked on a car newer than 1980) its an "all day ordeal" but ks there any special equipment i'll need? Also the installer of the engine said the part is under warranty but we'd have to go through him for it

No special tools.... 10, 13, 15 mm sockets. A puller.... Nothing fancy.
