Guys/gals, what should i use for small paint chip repairs? I have a black 2019 dodge ram classic. Its the black sparkly paint(technical term im sure lol :p ). Is there anything that i can use or are these literally only for the pros, or can i fix it with with a few hundred dollars investment? They arent noticeable except to me probably, and id probably wouldnt try anything unless cost benefit would be worth it.

Thanks

You can find the paint code for the paint on your Ram on a sticker on the inside trim of your driver's side door.

I use the Mopar or Duplicolor Paint Pens like this one....not the ones that are like markers...they suck.

This type of paint pen has a small brush which applies too much paint for most paint chips. I use the paint pen brush to put a little paint in a plastic bottle cap or plastic lid then use a very fine artists paint brush to apply the paint to the chip. For very tiny chips I use a toothpick.

For the paint brushes you can use many different options. Here are some I've used with success.

To prep the chip I wash it off with some Isopropyl alcohol on a microfibre towel. If you've let the chip start to run you'll have to clean away the rust first. The paint pen has an abrasive tip on one end to do this but you need to be very careful not to create a bigger project than you need by sanding out beyond the stone chipped area.

One last thing....the paint pen comes with both the paint color and clear coat. I never use the clear coat part as I've never much success in making it blend once adding the clear coat. I've had no issues doing it this way for many years. Other forum members may have a different take on the clear coat.

I've used the MOPAR paint pen on both the silver and the black on mine. I followed the instructions that come with it and got great results. If 2019's are the same as the 2017's then that would be Brilliant Black Pearl or Crystal. The paint code would be AXR/PXR.

I don't think you'll be able to get anything professionally done for a few hundred.

I used aftermarket black touch up pen when I owned my 2017 that was the same color as yours. It covered/protected the chips, but if you looked close, you could see the repair. I am not great with touch up pens.

Go to Dodge and get the correct paint pen. Its the same price as dupli crap and will match perfectly.

Use the OEM Paint Pen, You order by your paint code # and it comes with Paint one side and clear coat other side ! And if needed you can get a pen with primer and also has clear coat

Better yet, get a kit from Dr Color Chips. WAY better than a paint pin. I bought a Mopar paint pen, then the Dr Color Chips kit, and never even used the pen.
