i have a 2017 Ram 1500 4WD and thinking about getting tire chains for an upcoming Wyoming hunt. I have never ran chains on any vehicle so this will be a new adventure. Can you recommend a set of chains for this vehicle? I do want a heavy duty pair that will last years and stand up to lots of abuse.

I only run them on the quad for the winter. V-bars bite hard.

I'm too chicken to lace a set on the truck for highway speeds, never felt the need either.

You may want to check your manual.
My 2016 4x4 cannot be chained on the fronts as the there's not enough clearance.

Can only use cable chains on the rears as the brake hose is too close. If larger tires cannot even use cable chains.

That's why I switched to Falken Wildpeak AT/W3 snow rated tires

I wonder if that’s just for the 20’s. Lots of room on my oem 17’s with 265’s for chains to clear.

I had 20" wheels. Changed to 17" Rebel wheels and 285x70-17" E tire. My rear brake lines clear the rear tire by 1/4-3/8". A narrower tire would get me more clearance but not enough to exceed a Class S chain

17" wheels have 1/4" more backspace than a 20" wheel but 1.45mm less offset - basically the same clearance. It's these clearances that disallow 16" wheels on a 1500.

My owner's manual clearly states no chains on the fronts and Class S chains on the rears with caution to check clearances. No mention regards wheel size.

I run really aggressive chains. 7mm studded v bar made by trygg with cams to help keep them tighter. No clearance issues at all on my 20s. As long as they're installed correctly and kept tight there's no issue on the back.

I wonder if they changed something for 2017?

There's no way I could mount a standard chain on my 2016
