I'm no spring chicken with mechanical issues but tires aren't in my wheel house so to speak. My question is what size tire can I fit on my 04 1500 quad cab with 4X4 and it seems to have a body level on it. Suspension is stock. I don't mind a bit of rub when I turn to full lock as I rarely do so, I also have no problem removing the fender wells as I plan on fabricating custom ones out of diamond plate. I defiantly want a bigger diameter and with that I'd like to go up in width, I will use wheel spacers if need be. I'm also aware that I will most likely have to replace the rims to fit the new tires.

On a typical 4wd with a front leveling kit, you can fit 35s on correctly bacspaced rims (or with spacer). It'll be close to the front fenders, but if you're going custom then why not. They'll look a little beefy in the wheel wells, so if that's not your fancy then go with 33s or 285 70 17s. Since your truck isn't lifted other than possibly a leveling kit, you might as well go with 33s to save on initial tire cost as well as the need to get aftermarket rims/spacers. 285s should fit on stock 17" rims without rubbing anything.
