Tires true to size?

So since I've had my tires I never actually put a measuring tape against them to see what they measured. Tonight I got a wild hair up my butt to measure them. I was a little surprised how much smaller they actually were. My ridge grappler 295 70r18s(manufacturers specs 34.4x11.5) . The tires with 42 psi only measure a hair over 33" maybe about 33.125". I know weight of the truck etc plays a factor. I was just curious if any one else has measured there tires and what the differences were between that measurement and factory specs.

My 37” Yokohama’s measured exactly what the manufacturer specifications said. Keep in mind the specs dims are mounted on wheel with air not mounted on truck.

My trucks front fender measurement was 36.75” before the lift and Yokohama says tire height 36.7”. I took a pic for comparison

the important thing to remember is exactly what Jb1 said....the manufactures size is based off the tire mounted to the wheel and air up only (not when it is on the vehicle)

Sine you have Ridge Grapplers Here’s another comparison.....this Saturday my buddy just got some 325/60R20 Ridge Grapplers on 20x10 fuels for his Silverado, specs say 35.35” x 13.03” and they did measure that. We rolled one next to my 37x12.50’s and as you can see there’s not much difference in height, maybe an inch, but remember mines got the weight of the truck on them. I didn’t measure the height of mine on the truck but my guess is you lose about 1/2” to 3/4” give or take. After he gets his lift installed I’ll measure his and see how much it goes down.

I knew the weight of the truck would affect it but I was surprised that mine were almost an 1 1/4" smaller than those specs. I think that pic you just posted was very telling of how much smaller they end up being with weight on them

That's why members can run a 35" tire with just bilsteins, the tire measures 34.6 off the truck and closer to approx. 33.75 on the truck

I have the 37x12.50x20 ridge grapplers and they measure about 35.75”. That is on the truck
