The beauty of the 4 season tire is you don't need summer and winter tires. I did that a while back and it's a PITA. Storing them, changing them out, different wheels, buying everything initially, etc. 4 season tires is 50K miles of not caring what the weather does and you're ready.

Since I finally picked up a work car to drive to and from work on the daily (5 days a week, 280 miles a week just for work) my truck has been sitting most of the summer, only been driven when I need to take something to work (tool box) and when I went to Ohio with my trailer to an event, otherwise. I’m finally getting my miles back in check (had 29200 when parked in May, now has 30500 today and my truck just turned 2 years old back at the end of September) so even having a softer tire won’t really hurt being the hottest part of the year it will be parked more then it’s driving

I can only say good things about the Cooper Discoverer M+S; amazing tire.

I can't say the same about the Cooper Zeon LTZ.

With 31K on your current tires and money tight I would put off replacing the tires for a year. I try to follow the old adage 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' as much as possible.

I am assuming that you rotate the tires every 5k miles which is important in general but especially so when pulling a heavy trailer.

Well... if I was only driving this in the summer, I would. But with these tires getting down on rubber. And pulling in the snow, it’s asking for a wreck, my plan is, use the piece of plastic in my wallet to pay for them, but I can dump about $250 a month at them, and what I have left after the 1st of the year will wipe them out and the rest of my card (only have about $450 sitting owed on it) I know I’m gonna pay some interest, but being maybe a max of 4-5 months it won’t be bad (trust me. I’m not gonna do what my parents did and have 25k in credit card debt)

Reason funds are abit tight right now is, I started a new job at the end of August. So while training. I haven’t had any overtime yet, and I’m on 1st shift for another month, once I get back to 2nd I get $1.50 shift differential and overtime will be an option. Which I’m only banking on the shift differential to add into my weekly check being ot is never a promise when I figure out expenses, but any ot I get I’m going to use to pay off the card and for my vacation in February, then start banking the rest

Had Cooper AT3 XLT 285/65R20s for about 3K miles. They were great. Lost a little acceleration & about 1.5 mpg but they were quiet, smooth and looked great.

Now going thru this again but with 18" rims. Leaning towards stock size for maintaining power & mpg. The stock tires are so light (49-50 lb) compared to same size ATs (56-58 lb). Go up a size and its likely a huge drain on power & mpg (58-68 lb).

I think the trail hogs are 52lbs a tire in a 275/70/18 so not a huge difference

Look at the Falken Wildpeak AT3W.
They have the snowflake rating and won't break the bank either.

Been goofing around looking at different sizes. Will a 285/75/18 fit/work without any major rubbing on a 3500 with the stock tradesmen wheels? Or am I looking at needing a lift/leveling kit for those?

How much room is around that plastic piece by the front fender (that spray guard) being I have the ram rubber flaps that mount over those

Sorry man, I screwed up. I'm running 285-70, not 285-75. That might be my next tire though. There are right around 35" so going to be a close fit on a non leveled truck I would think but I know people do it.

I see. From what I’ve searched it seems the 285/75/18 will fit. They are a 35” tire. But only 11.2” wide. And no one complains about rubbing on a stock or leveled truck, just no one says anything about mud flaps [emoji3166]

Well. Got the 285/75/18 duratracs installed yesterday. Couldn’t be happier with the look and ride so far. Now just need to get some money saved up. And either level. Or 3” front 1” rear lift (nothing major. Just a bit more attitude)
