To Laramie or not to Laramie? That is the question.

when I was younger, all I cared about was the big engine, right gears and 4wd. I apparently have grown out of that phase now cause Im kiciking myself with this express. I used to like adding my own stuff to make it my truck. Now I dont have the energy nor time to do it myself :(

Laramie gets my vote. Hell if my hellcat doesnt work out Im going balls deep on a laramie limited

Laramie!! the extra things will be worth it, plus being a Laramie it will hold its value a little better. I have a 14' Laramie and love it, love the remote start when its cold, start it from the app on my phone, heated and cooled seats are nice, Nav, Back-up camera all that crap and the cooled seats. Plus the LED tail lights, blinkers and projector headlights are nice too

The fact that you're debating this tells me you should get the Laramie... just sign the papers, drive away and be happy.... no regrets!
Well, I was gonna get the Big Horn until I read your post. So I ordered the Laramie. All your fault. I bet you didn't mind spending my money one bit!
HA HA Just kidding. I just read this thread after I got back from ordering the truck. I have an outdoorsman with most of the bells and whistles and have been immensely happy with the truck as well as the bells and whistles. So it didn't take much for me to talk myself into the Laramie for this go-around. I do think if I was younger I would go for something less and do the mods myself. Us old farts have been there/done that.

Good decision. You probably won't be telling yourself "I wish I hadn't gotten all these nice upgrades".

Ive convinced the wife to let me get a charger hellcat once Ive had this current truck a year. At that time it will be the longest Ive had a vehicle since 2004.

LOL, you sound like me. I'm also on the one a year plan. I'm going to try and keep my Laramie for at least a few years. While fun ******* away 10K a year isn't very smart...

I love my Laramie and found lots of things to mod too. :)

Nothing is going tolook as good as the 8.4an sitting smack in the middle of your truck. Could I spend 1000-1300(upgraded speakers) on a much better sounding unit? Yes, but it will never fit and look as good.

So do I spend $7k on an option 'package' stuffed with crap I don't really want just to get the 1 or 2 things in the package I do want? I reached my 'the hell with this' limit and stepped down to a Big Horn last weekend. I'm talking Ford here, Ram isn't as bad 'yet'. Radar avoidance and warp drive and whatever. Thousands of dollars in electronic gadgets to help me change lanes? Or I could just look out the window.

My loaded 2013 F150 was totaled recently, I paid $50k for it. To replace it with a 2015 F150 Lariat was going to cost me $56k after my X plan discount. MSRP was north of $60k. Instead I opted for this Big Horn for $35,595 and saved $20k wow!

This isn't your father's Big Horn, its loaded with more options than you used to get in a Laramie. Power folding mirrors, heated seats and steering wheel, auto dimming mirrors, tilt column, power seats, polished aluminum wheels, heated rear seats, 4WD Auto, and on and on. Okay so the Big Horn didn't have Nav, meh I had the dealer add it. Cost me maybe $100 more than factory. It didn't have leather, meh Katzkin. The only thing I gave up that really hurt was the Ford HID headlights but they were not worth $20k to me.

Anyway that's where I am on this trend towards trucks that cost as much as a Porsche.

So, lots of well thought opinions regarding "personal" preferences. Here's a little different take.

I have a Laramie because of my wife and kids. Heated seats for her and dvd in the back for the kids means that I hear less whining about my truck when we all pile in.

I've been a bare bones truck purist. My first was a regular cab long bed, and I was pissed that it was going to cost me more for a manual transmission.

But I've upgraded on options each time I've purchased a new truck. I tell you what, I sure don't mind having the options, and I still use my truck as a truck.

Good luck [emoji3]

Laramie. I have made compromises with previous trucks. I told myself to either do it right the first time or not at all. Get what you want that way you don't get buyers remorse.

For $3k I would take the Laramie. More options and better resale. I have had 2 big horns and would have taken a Laramie if it would have only been a $3k difference when I was shopping in 13. I ended up trading the 13 lone star CC in on a 14 express RC since I didn't need the extra space and dropped my payments $80/ month. If I could have gotten a Laramie for $3k more in 13 I might still have it.

For $3k difference that's a no-brainer. To add the options to the big horn and bring it up to Laramie level you'd spend more than $3k. Hell, just a premium Katskin leather package is almost $2k for a CC Ram. You won't be able to add cooled seats for less than $1k. Projector heads and LED tails would be another $500-1000 depending. You won't get seat memory unless you pulled stock seats from a junk Laramie and still would need the BCM programmed. $250-350 for decent fender flares and whatever it costs to get them match painted.

There's no way anyone could upgrade a big horn to laramie trim with aftermarket parts for less than the dealer markup between the trim levels.

When i bought my truck i knew i was going to have it for at least the next 15 years. So when i bought i made sure i had every single option i wanted from day one. I've had my truck for almost two years and i can honestly say that there hasn't been a time I've climbed in and haven't been happy. in my opinion definitely go for the larime

From what I've seen it's definitely worth getting a laramie. Especially later on once you wanna sell it you'll be glad you got a laramie!

I thought you were going to build your truck into your own Hellcat. That would be way cooler :D

Just need to bore/stroke to the 6.2L and add a blower, how hard could it be? :naughty:

Getting a Laramie, you still have to "add on" several things. Trailer brakes, 8.4 AN (with navigation), remote start, etc. Now, with the Big Horn, you have to add even more. Make sure to take that into consideration.

The main reason I went for the Laramie was looks. I love the look of the grill and headlights. The leather seats, I could take or leave. There are advantages and disadvantages to them.

If I would have went with a lesser model and added a bunch of options plus aftermarket headlights and grill, would it have been cheaper? Sure, possibly. But there wasn't enough difference for me to downgrade the model I wanted.

I love my 2014 Big Horn but if a Laramie was just 3k more I would have gone that way too.
I feel I got a pretty good deal. MSRP was 46,600 but I paid 33,100. Could I have gotten a Laramie for 36k?
The main thing I would want if I bumped up to the Laramie is the better headlights but there are some other nice features as well.
I just hope this truck is reliable, this is my first return to American made since 1996. That was 6 vehicles ago.
