To Laramie or not to Laramie, that is the question. Big Horn or Laramie? Ram 2500.

I went to the dealer yesterday and got final pricing on a Big Horn with a lot of options and a Laramie. Right at $3,000 difference. Trying to figure out what that 3K buys me. Same options except the leather-trimmed ventilated seats and keyless entry - which I could add to the Big Horn for $150.

I am not excited about leather seats but do like the idea of ventilated seats which can only come with a Laramie package.

Is re-sale going to reflect that pricing difference?

Anyone regret getting Big Horn and not stepping up to Laramie? Anyone get Laramie and wish they had of just gotten the Big Horn package?

I got the Laramie, and was dead set on it when I went looking. Love those seats, that was the big selling point for me. Sooooo nice in the hot weather for cooling the undercarriage.

Features are features...and I will never judge or debate getting features on a vehicle...but good grief, they laugh all the way to the bank on that one.

I look at it this way. 5.7L hemi, 4x4, 8-speed auto, crew cab. The Express is nearly $10,000 LESS than the Laramie, $13,000 less than the Laramie Longhorn and a whopping $16,000 less than the Laramie Limited.

For the most part...the more expensive items of these trucks (the body, engine, trans, suspension, etc) are identical. You're dropping $10-16,000 more on relatively cheap additions like leather, or seat cooling, different head/tail lights or a better stereo.

I know I'm nitpicking here but I just can't bring myself to drop and extra $10K for some nicer trim pieces, leather and a different stereo. Especially not when all trucks perform the same function wise.

My buddy has a '14 sport and I have a "Black Express"...he made a comment a few months back about the differences being pretty minor between the two. Especially figuring the Black Express comes with the nicer head/tail lights...

I'm the opposite, if I'm going to buy the truck for the long haul, I want it to be equipped exactly how I want it. I don't want to be wishing I had gotten this or that, or "settling". Been there and done that many times before, I always end up getting the truck I wanted in the end, but costing me more because I have to trade-up.

I did it right this time, went right for the exact truck for me.

And that's why I will never bust anyone's balls for the package they choose. It's your $$ and you spend it anyway you like. I give my personal opinion concerning my $$ only...I have no place judging how others spend theirs.

It's all good, didn't mean to sound argumentative. Just giving opinion as well. ..

It's cost me big $$ at times when I didn't get the vehicle I wanted right off the bat! :(

OEM integration is also almost always better than an aftermarket hack job, especially in the resale department. No one wants to look at the dash of a prospective purchase and see a bunch of Radio Shack switches. "Did the previous owner know what he was doing?"

Now there's nothing wrong with not wanting to spend the money for certain features. To each their own. But I do not believe that it's better to buy a lower trim truck with the intention of adding features in the aftermarket when you could have gotten the features OEM.

For me, I'm getting old, and the days of coveting everyone else's heated seats are over. My next truck will be exactly like I want it. My modding days are over (mostly).

This is the same situation I came from when I bought my 3rd Ram. Could have bought any trim I wanted, but ended up with a SLT, and with the price difference of close to $16K, Spent $5K and have a nicer truck with more features. 90% of the stuff I changed, was replaced with OEM parts that came from Salvage Yards around the country.

Another personal opinion;

I have a fully loaded sport and I went browsing through the "4th Gen DIY" and almost every thread in there is people discussing how to add the options I already have. So rather than nickel and diming my way to a nicer, basically stock truck, I get to start right in with fun mods

This is something do not get at all. Adding factory features on the fly is unearthly expensive after the fact...silly expensive at times.

By stating I would not get an upper features package...I DEFINITELY get what I want right out of the gate. I wanted 4-door ext cab, V8, 4x4, locking rear diff...and that's about it. If I would have settled for a V6, or a 2wd I would have very disappointed.

for me personally,my last truck had every option available in 03.44k.sticker.most of them were useless to me.leather heated seats were ok in winter but in the summer? forget it. moveable pedals? never moved. leather steering wheel ?didn't look so good after a couple years. nav system?got a phone that does that. back up camera? campers in the way. if I didn't get such a good deal on it I never would have bought it.my new truck is an slt.any mods I do are exterior like front mount hitches, new winch for a new truck, running boards and camper tiedowns, off road lights. big ass tires on stock rims . heated mirrors and a/c do me just fine.i wish I could have found a power wagon though.my trucks get treated like the workhorses they are.

But "build quality" as in what? It's mechanically the same truck as any other package deal with the same engine/trans...

I was in the same situation. I ordered a Laramie because I wanted auto climate control. I could do without leather and fancy lights but I didn't like the idea of going backwards on climate control from my 10 year old Avalanche.

I think it comes down to your mindset and what you do with your vehicles. I always mod the crap out of my cars, can't help it, so I'm in the camp with Type. I get the important stuff for me, chassis, engine, driveline, camera, tow mirrors, spray in, 5.0. All that stuff I could accomplish at the lowest trim level and did.

Going up to the SLT was about $5k more for remote start and nicer door panels, garage door opener on headliner and the back window opened, otherwise it was the same truck. Laramie was even more.

Better stock wheels don't interest me because I change them anyway same with the crappy headlights and stuff like that.

If you're the type of person that's going to buy it and just drive it like it is then it's a different story and getting everything from the start is probably worth it to you. Especially if the lowest you're willing to go is SLT, $3k more for the laramie is not a lot and I would probably do it.

Big horn or Laramie does not matter imo the most important thing is that your not settling for something when u want something else. I did that also on my first truck, never again. Second time around I made sure I got everything I wanted and I have 0 regrets now. Between the two for me it would be Laramie no question. In the 2500 it would be a power wagon also

you'll find that most people will take these threads personally.

if you have to ask, just get the laramie, if you can afford it.

The fact that you're debating this tells me you should get the Laramie... just sign the papers, drive away and be happy.... no regrets!
