We did find another truck. It was a new Ram Limited. The deal was really good. We had all the paperwork started and credit approval completed and we were to finalize today. I did research over the weekend on the new engine and found that the hurricane 3.0 Turbo HO tows 2000 lbs less than my 2024 V8 Hemi. Very glad I looked into this further as it could not tow my boat. I wonder what they were thinking when they designed the new engine. Just because I like riding in luxury doesn’t mean that I don’t also enjoy fishing or camping.

First of all, thank you for providing a site for previous/future Ram owners. My 2024 1500 Ram Limited was totaled in October - thank goodness for the build quality of the Ram truck. My wife and I made it out unscathed other than sore neck and back. So, we are on the lookout for another Ram truck. Long story short, we purchased a 10,000 lb gross weight boat/trailer so we need a larger truck. I've spotted a 2024 Ram 2500 diesel that should do the trick. It has <15K miles. The carfax shows a purchase in March '24, the battery having been replaced in May, then listed for sale in August. Dealership has certified the vehicle and the price is $65K. The MSRP was $94K. Looking for guidance/thoughts on this one. Seems too good to be true. I would test drive before purchasing, but is there anything I can do re: due diligence to ensure the truck is everything it should be?
Have you looked at new inventory? My son just bought a 2024 Rebel 2500 for $73K that had a list of $90+. The new diesel Tradesman's around here seem to be in the low $70. Not to discourage your used candidate, but I'd personally would rather spend a few thousand more on new.

Regards,
Dusty

HaHa. Yes, new would be preferred. I was able to get the dealer down 18% on a new 1500 Limited, which I thought was pretty good. It would have been an awesome truck. Unfortunately, as I mentioned in another post, the new trucks (Limited) are equipped with the new Hurricane 3.0 turbo HO, which has a towing capacity of 2K less than my V8 Hemi. The search continues.

As far as I know, the Hurricane HO is standard on trims above Laramie. Laramie, Big Horn, and Tradesman come standard with the Standard Output (SO) which can tow up to 11,480 (4x2) or 11,260 (4x4). Why the HO is rated lower, I don't know, but looking at a Limited is why it isn't rated to handle your boat.

Yup. After having all of those amenities and safety features, I'm finding they are hard to give up, which is making my search that much more difficult. It's a good thing I'm retired. :)

Close but not quite, Dusty. The Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, and Big Horn come standard with the 3.6L Pentastar engine. The 3.0 SO Hurricane is available on the Tradesman and Big Horn at extra cost. The Warlock, Laramie, and Rebel only come with the 3.0 SO Hurricane. RHO, Limited, Limited Longhorn, and Tungsten models are only available with the 3.0 HO Hurricane.

And as in previous model years, the higher the trim level the lower your payload. Which equates to lower tow rating. The HO having a lower tow rating is kind of puzzling. Unless it's just a heavier engine.

Purkster, where from in Wisconsin? I would like to share some info with you, but prefer not to share on the forum here. No offense guys, it involves extended warranties and why we got one. I dunno how you can get in touch with me. Oh heck, send me an email.

Thank you for the clarification.

I suspect the issue is the limitation of the 8HP75. Pulling an 11+ thousand pound load and extra horsepower/torque, could get someone into a tranny problem quickly.

Well, after much thought and deliberation, we decided to purchase a new 2500 Limited. It was just too difficult trying to decipher who was/was not telling the whole story when considering buying used. The deal we got on the new 2500 was also too good to pass up, although we have to travel to LA to pick it up. The dealerships in WI and FL apparently don't have, or weren't willing, to pass on the rebates available to them/us. I'll be sure to update my profile pic with the new truck once we get it in the driveway. I'll feel much better pulling my boat with this rather than the 1500 v8Hemi as well. Appreciate everyone's help, guidance, input, etc. We did pay $1,500 for the extended bumper to bumper as well. We have learned that it will pay for itself given the expense of owning a diesel. Or maybe it's just about peace of mind.

imho the only reason to get an extended warranty is if it covers the emissions beyond 50k miles. Which is what i did when i bought my truck. Push's it out to 125k.

My son just purchased a Ram 2500 from a dealer in Georgia, not because there was a lack of discounts here, but because he didn't want a diesel which seemed all the dealers had in a 2500. But the deal was actually very good: Rebel 2500 with level 1 & 2, lockers, air ride, auto side steps, etc., and other stuff. $90370 list, $73000 out the door which included tax.

It's amazing the deals you can get from high volume dealers. They have access to rebates that others don't. And if you find the right one, they don't charge for nitrogen filled tires, which you don't need; tinted windows, which you don't need; pinstripes (lol), which you don't need; etc.

The dealer in Georgia was Jackie Jones, I believe.
