I have 23,000 km's (14000 miles) on my 13 ram with the 5.7 hemi. If I install a catch can now will it still be of benefit to me or is it too late to install one? And speaking of benefits. What are the main benefits? Prolonged engine life? Added power? Better Mileage? I know lots of people on here say they wouldn't own a hemi with out one but if they're that great wouldn't they be on from the factory? Thanks

I don't think there's any such thing as too late to install it. It just prevents vaporized oil from being sent through the PCV system into your intake to be reburned. Installing the catch can would keep your intake tube, throttle body, upper intake etc. free from oil coating which if you live in dusty environments could be detrimental.

I also would imagine vaporized motor oil would inhibit mileage and power by limiting the energy potential of the air/fuel mix upon ignition.

As to your last question, if that's your thought process then why are you considering modifying your vehicle at all?

I put mine on at like 40000 kms. I don't know if it's changed much but seeing the stuff it's caught id rather have it just for peace of mind

Other than the purchase cost there is no down side to installing a catch can. The oil vapor would mess up your intake and valves. It can also cause preignition which forces your PCM to cut back timing to stop your knocking--slowing you down. That is an even bigger problem if your engine is heavily modified.

All you have to do is look at the yilch (technical term) that the can collects to know you don't want anymore of it entering your intake. :naughty:

I bought my truck used with 47k miles. I put one on and when I changed my throttle body I couldn't belie how dirty it was. I'm glad that I put one in to keep all that junk out of the motor.

Never a stupid question. But that leads to the next question. If you install the catch can, do you clean out the throttle body? What do you use to clean it out?

I used a throttle body cleaner I got from the auto store. Just sprayed it down and wiped it with a cloth. I was changing tb so it was easier to clean off the intake. If you do take it off be careful when putting it back on. The intake is plastic so start the treading the screws in by hand and hand tighten.

I put min on at 2000 miles. Now at 27,000 I took the throttle body off and checked the intake and both the throttle body and intake looked like new.

So it seems that a lot of people have the bt catch can from moes I'm assuming. Do they ship to Canada? I was on their website and put in my address but it just says free shipping (48 states only)?

I wouldn't own a RAM without a catch can.
I don't think it's ever too late to stop atomized crap from being recirculated through your engine.

Undecided...my tb and intake looked pretty clean last I looked with 19,000 miles on her?!?!?!? May get a cheap Ebay one for $20 and put a downspout and screen in it just for ***** and giggles though. Couldn't hurt.
