Ok, I just became a RAM owner and I love the truck but need some performance upgrades. Its a 2012 1500 and its stock minus a borla pro-x universal muffler I had put on a couple of weeks ago. I want to add a few things and would like input on what or how I should go about the upgrades.

I want to add:
CAI - S&B most likley
87-mm TB
Programmer - Diablo/Superchips?

I can't really do them all at one time but I can do them in the next few months but like one at a time. What would be the first to last thing you would go with? Internal items will be down the road since the items above I can take off if I need to take it in for any warranty work minus the muffler.

Thank you,
Wade

Skip the TB and put that money towards the intake. None of these parts are going to do much for you without a tuner so a Diablo is the one you want to go with. Spend some time searching the forum so you don't waste your money.

Just get a Pedal Commander. All the other stuff is useless unless you plan to race with it.

Since you have a muffler, I'd do the intake and tuner next. The Diablo I3 would be my choice and plan on adding the custom tuning. These are the most bang for your buck right now....the throttle body will perform better after other performance upgrades have already been done.

Anything you do from there forward will just be complimentary and the tune can be updated for more performance as you add some other mods.

I respectfully disagree with the poster above re: modding our trucks/racing. I have a heavy 4-door Laramie daily driver and I've modded the hell out of it (and not done yet)....and it'll likely never see the drag strip. Why? Because I enjoy doing it and it makes an already fun truck even more fun to drive every day.

For the OP...if you're looking to save MPGs.....well, keep it stock. lol

Do the intake first, then get the programmer. I'd highly recommend a custom tune. You can get both as a package from a couple of supporting vendors here on RamForum.

Diablosport tuner 100% 1st thing hands down. The guy saying its useless unless racing has zero clue what hes talking about. You can get custom tunes for better mpg, better towing, WAY better performance, better shifting helping your trans last longer (i think trans tuning is available for 12 dont quote me on this one though) error code reading and cancelling/resetting, logging, monitoring your engine..... Tons of stuff and it is BY FAR the most bang for your buck in the price range. Then after that all your upgrades only work better because of the tune. I wouldnt spend the money on a TB however but thats just me.

Definitely another vote for the tuner. It is a performance tool, but also a valuable tool in maintenance and problem diagnostics. I always hate when a cel comes on and you don't know which direction to look in. Plus as you add more parts most tuners will update your tune for free
