Towing capacity

I have a 2012 3500 diesel w/ the manual transmission. I recently looked up the towing capacity and could not believe. The manual transmission rated at 14,050 lbs but the automatic rated at 22,700 lbs? Anyone have an idea why? Thanks

I’ve heard that the Diesel engines had to be “de-tuned” because the clutches they used at the factory, can’t hold the full TQ/HP of the diesel.
Maybe the tow rating is lower for the same reason?
