Put it in drive, hit the tow/haul button and let the truck do it's thing.
Yup pretty much what I do... my computer knows what to do and when to do it. have taken 2 trips recently in the mountains. Its been awesome... Mine is not a Cummins, but its still under Mopar Management.

Engauge the exhaust brake too. Best feature on the diesel ever! Ditto on the tow haul mode, with my 15000lb fifth wheel.

The exhaust brake really is the best thing ever on my CTD.

Back when I used to watch TFL Truck, there were many times I was screaming at them because they did exactly that, and the truck was obviously suffering. Sometimes you need to force a downshift sooner, or walk up a hill at a slightly slower speed to force the gear and RPMs to drop and then raise your power back up.

It's not that simple. Sometimes the driver really does know better.

When towing up hills and mountains I do all the shifting manually. It runs up the hills much better with no MPH speed drop. I set cruise on the flat land and also manually shift when needed. Cruise will drop a few mph before downshifting.

I would never tow with any thing that had weight in a overdrive gear, way to hard on a transmission.
