Hi all. We have a 2020 ram 1500 warlock with the v6 and a 3.21 gear ratio. We are trying to figure out if we can tow a toy hauler that has a dry weight of around 5000 lbs if we use a weight distribution hitch. The toy we will be carrying is a 800lb harley. Are we out of luck because we have the 3.21 ratio?

How small is your toy hauler that it only weigh's 5k? That truck doesn't have muck towing capacity.

Other than the engine/trans, everything else about the truck is the same as the Hemi which means it can physically handle along with stopping the weight.
Having the V6 gasser with 3.21 will not like towing that trailer on anything other than pretty much flat roads. You'll definitely want to use a WDH if you do.

You could load everything up and go to a CAT scale to see if you have everything distributed properly, a little tougher with a smaller engine to get the load right over the front wheels. But if you are driving through the mountains such as in PA, you are probably going to be really stressing the truck so try to keep supplies and fluids in the trailer to a minimum or zero so all power is reserved for the precious cargo back there. Good luck.

What is your payload and tow rating? You defenetly will need a WDH.

We were looking at the forest river toy haulers. They have quite a few that are either side of 5000 lbs dry. But then we found out the gear ratio. It looks like the weight limit is 4350 and payload is 1710. But then we found a document online that seemed to show that using a weight distribution hitch would up that significantly but what I can't find any other info that backs that up so I thought I had better ask.

The WDH will help when you are within the limits. It will help with weight disribution and stability but will not increase any capacities.

Try to think of it this way... The Warlock is a SHOW TRUCK, Not a TOW truck. Any 5k trailer you hook up to that is going to be too much for it.

utter nonsense and has nothing to do with the Warlock trim, the only reason his truck can't tow much is it's a gasser V6 w/3.21 gearing. Stuff a Hemi under the hood w/3.92 gearing(also available w/Warlock trim) and you can easily drag an 8K lbs trailer all over the US

You're gonna hate life towing 6000+ pounds with a v6 and 3.21 gears.

I say 6000+ lbs because dry weight does not account for propane, batteries, fluids, all your shtuff you put in the camper, PLUS whatever goes in the garage.

Personally, I wouldn't tow that set up on the open roads, but I'm in the camp where I always like having more truck than I need for the job, not just enough or barely enough. Everyone has an opinion, but safety is paramount, especially if family is riding with you.

I don't think safety would be an issue sinse it is the same steering and suspension as the 5.7 models but the power may be an issue. Possibly over-working the trans too
