So, My 2010 just turned over 210,000km. There has been some humming, vibrations, and whining going on over the last 30k or so. I bought the truck with 170,000km on it. And I have little faith in the dealership having done anything. And the proof is in the pudding... As I pulled off the front diff cover... one of the bolts came out REAL easy.. it has been RTVed into place, and the tech gobbed RTV all along the edge of the cover where that bolt was.
Lets move to the rear, I pull off the cover, and everything is covered in a blackish soot. The fluid was also black, but only had minor debris in it. it didnt even really sparkle. After flushing the unit out, I found.... a 1" chunk of the Passenger side clutch pack spring stuck to the magnet in the base of the housing... So I checked the ring for chunks or damage. Nothing, the pinion was nice looking too. So It looks like my chunk simply few out of the carrier and stuck to the magnet. WHEW!
So now, Do I have to go threw a full rebuild of the diff? or can I simply swap out the clutch packs and be done with it?
