Just keep the truck, and buy a cheapo $1000 dollar honda, or geo metro to hau you l back and forth on far trips. Hell, you could prolly fit it in the bed of your truck if you ever really needed to! :********:

see i tried that option. getting a old 240sx but the parents werent gonna let me have two cars on the insurance. esp since my bro just got his new car..

the argument about "the CTD has a bigger tank so its gonna hurt more when you fill up" is COMPLETELY ludicrous. If a vehicle gets 25 mpg vs one that gets 14 mpg, you're gonna pay less in fuel...end of story. It might cost more per fillup, but you fill up wayyyy less often. Look at the range. His current truck probably has a range of less than 300 miles. the CTD will have a range of over 600 miles.

As for going with gears. If you're looking to save money on gas, modding is retarded. Yes, you'll get better mileage with gears, but its gonna take a LONG time to pay off your $500 investment in gears.

If that CTD is only $14,000 i'd get it in a heartbeat. Yes its got some miles on it (and no, thats not just "broken in". Its still well used, but far from retirement), but still a great truck. You could easily get close to $14k for your truck as well.

I'd get the CTD -- FINANCIALLY it makes more sense.

IMO, trading always cost money. I would figure how much it would cost me and how much gas that would buy with how much you actually drive the truck. If it make sense then buy it if you just want another truck and trade, then the savings/cost doesn't really matter.

Makes no sense to me when diesel fuel is over 4.50 a gallon .
you are not gaining anything . Keep the truck you have .

+1 Plus, you have to factor in what you owe on your current truck. And as far as the CTD having a larger tank, it's also an option for the gas models to have a 35 or 36 gallon tank. So, again...not saving anything.

I understand that a CTD isn't really broken in till about 100k, but for a truck that is 5 years old, that seems very high to me. If it was an 03-05, I could see it being more realistic.

wow...why so high in your area. I'm paying $4.00 per gallon and it is only 40cents more than 87 ocatane gas.

Here where I am diesel is 3.78...**** if it were 4.50 I wouldn't have even considered the CTD. I've been talking to some friends about this (some against, some for) and it did nothing, but spur up an argument on which would save more lol. If I had a choice, I'd keep my truck because I've put a lot of work into it and it has some sentimental value, I'm not deciding with the CTD because of what it is, but to save myself some cash on fuel. I REALLY drive my truck only 3 times a week for the long commute and the other days, it just sits in the drive way.

I just got home right now and averaged about 10 MPG's (highway) because of the wind...it was painful. I understand that maintenance and filling up for the diesel is a bit more, but one thing for sure is I won't be filling up every monday like I usually do...

people get confused when they see that diesel cost more at the pump and then can't understand that in the long run it is cheaper(in most cases). I will gladly pay 40 cents more per gallon to go almost twice as far on that gallon of fuel (which i do ;) )

Im still bias and say CTD for the win if and only if you can swing the intital cost.

yeah I'm gonna try to find one under 100K miles....it's just so hard to find one at a good price with how much value those trucks retain! And I completely agree with you Butch

of course my statement is looking at it only from a fuel cost vs. consumption standpoint. There are obviously other factors to take into consideration

Maintance wont be that bad, twice as much oil and have to keep up with the diesel filter... other then that your gonna be about the same. When something breaks on a CTD though its twice as much.

I wouldn't worry about the truck having 100k, but I wonder why diesel is more than gas? In the Philippines about 80% of the vehicles are diesel and the price for a liter is about 1/4 less than gas.
