Hello,

I hate to post a rant like this, but I really need help getting Ram and/or dealer to take ownership of a transmission problem. I’ve seen the Ram account post here before offering assistance, well I now need assistance.

1/1/2019 Bought a 2017 Ram 1500 w 21,000 miles. Still under full warranty. 5.7L 8 speed 3.21

Drove nice for 2 weeks, then developed bump and/or down shifting about 1 second after full stops and bump when release break.

Dropped at the local Ram dealer, they called me back, “we didn’t notice anything”.

I then recommended I drive with one of them, we do, it bumps and yes they now agree it’s happening.

They have no recommendation of what to do. They say the the computer shows it has the latest updates “shift memory” can’t be reset, re flashed, updated, or quick learned. They are also closing for the day now. I leave 100% no resolution at all or follow up appointment.

Now 4 days later, the issue is progressing noticeably worse, it bumps/shift/jerks multiple times at one stop. Trying to nose out in traffic its bumping, quite frankly it’s not safe, and to reiterate it only happens sometimes, but for SURE is getting worse and more frequent.

During all of this I have been trying to sign up for RAM cares as you guys said it’s helped you.

Sent an email from the website. No response.

Did online chat “YES your 2017 qualifies for ram care free, need to update ownership send info over and someone will call you back.” I did, No response.

Called on the phone, “those reps don’t work right now, give me info they will call you back.” No response.

Called on the phone again during M-F working hours. “give me the info and respond to this email to update ownership. (4 days ago) No response.

Called again today, “Yes the ownership is now updated, but as the second owner, NO you do not qualify for Ram Care”… ok I have an issue under warranty my dealer is unable to fix, how do you recommend I proceed? “call dodge”

I don’t want to be **** talking on the internet about this, Yes I only went to the dealer one time, but it’s obvious they do not want or know how to troubleshoot the transmission if the computer already says its updated.

I also don’t want to go shopping around at a bunch of different RAM service departments getting picked up dropped off by my coworkers. Although I do want to go to a different one.

Is this something RAM gets involved in? I’ve only driven 1000 miles on a 21k odometer truck in 1 month of ownership and the tranny went from fine to **** in that amount of time. On top of that I get 11.x mpg and my 32 gallon gas tank reads as 23.5 gallons and disables my remote start. I asked the service department about the gas tank, because recall U05 (completed) says it addresses this. NO one has ever heard of that, their computers don't say anything about anything related to the gas tank on U05. Even though the RAM app says U05 (autopark recall) addresses this on my end.

anyway, the tranny is the big issue.

please help

Wow. Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, I have the same issue with my 2016 5.7, 8spd, 3.21. The tranny bump has had me almost get hit at a stop light, turning right. I haven't looked into getting it taken care of. After reading your story, I will have mine checked out.

I also had read it's "normal" but it didn't happen at first and is progressing quickly. There's no way it's normal.

False, I am the third owner of my truck and got RamCare involved by PM'ing them here on this forum.

Suggest you find a different local dealer, setup an appointment when their transmission tech is on duty. Once you have that appointment set, PM RamCares with a list of your issues, and they should assign a case handler to you, who will be calling you.

So what exactly do they do. They will follow up with the case after but do not necessarily contact the dealer before hand?

I will take your advice and do just that.

From my experience, they are definitely in contact with the dealer. Other than that, I don't know what's going on behind the scenes. At 93k miles, my trans was replaced for the exact same issue as you, just weeks before it's 5yr power train expiry date.

Ok so, brought truck in twice, the second time they kept it for a week, never called, never did anything. Said they didn't notice anything.

I do not believe they have the skill or knowledge to perform a repair.

I'm now at 1st visit at a new dealer. (3rd attempt at fixing the tranny bump).

They just called me, said they drove it and there was no bump...of course. However they did perform a quick learn anyway.

Great, at least they are trying something. The previous dealer refused to even do a quick learn, I asked many times.

It's not easy to get all these rides back and forth.

Someone tell me straight... Is there any chance this quick learn will help? I'm about to get a ride back there now.

I had good luck with unplugging the battery for a while, it solved some weird shifting issues a couple of times.

Hi Cordwood,

We're sorry to hear you're having a challenge with this! If your vehicle is still in service and you would like additional support, please feel free to send us a PM with your VIN and the name of the dealer you're working with so we can have a look into this on our end.

finding a good servicing dealer that go above and beyond to solve customers problems is almost impossible. here is what i would suggest: relax, calm down and dont get worked up over this. you dont need the stress. you have a warranty. you have time yo get this addressed. if it gets worse or breaks then its easier for them to diagnose. do some research on this issue. its a pretty common occurrence. it is not normal for a truck to do this.
my last truck, a 2016 5.7 8 speed with 392 rear did this. i could make it do it. i could also make it so it didnt do it. for me, if i had to brake fairly syrong coming to a stop it would do it. esp if there was a hill before the stop. my current 14 8 speed with 321 doesnt do it. i live in same house as last truck that did it. so same conditions, different outcome. i did not bother getting the issue fixed. it was a lease and i turned it in as is.
search "bump" on here. there was a guy who commented on this issue a while ago. said it was something like the yolk spline needing greasing or something like that. gather up some info to help the dealer fix your truck right (pretty pathetic we have to do this).

good luck. hopefully @RamCares can help push this. it should not be an inconvenience to the customer to get their vehicle fixed correctly.
