So for as long as I can remember I've been against the trans flush. And the way my dad put it made sense. They force fluid into the system through dirty filters. And then leave the filters in. Even on my 04. I argued with the dealer that I want the pan dropped and filter changed. And that I'd rather have 1 dirty quart in the converter, And clean sump and filter.

Well I'd like to have my 2012 done before I leave ak. But I don't have a dealer. And I don't trust the ford place here to do it. My sister works for a dealer and I can get the fluid. I just want to make sure that like my 04. Can I just drop the pan, Wipe it out, change the spin on filter ( is there one). And top it back off

Is there a gasket? Or is it permatex
And do the 2012s have filters

Also. Any one use other than mopar trans fluid with good luck

I haven't done anything with the 4th gen rams as far as a flush and filter replacement goes. But I have done them on a couple other dodges, including a 2012 journey, and it still had a gasket. I used Castrol ATF in them too. They make a version that's rated for mopar cars, that has worked for me pretty well.

Dunno if this is feasible for you, but when I had the fluid changed on my 05, i found a shop (Actually a Mr. Transmission) that flushed properly. They drop the pan, then put a supply of clean fluid to the pickup, and run the pump until clean fluid comes out the other side of the system. It's not forced in anyway, but it ensures a full fluid swap. Then they install new filters, the pan, fill it and away you go.

Your 2012 will have 2 filters, the flat style primary and the screw in return filter. Here is a diagram.

As Chrisb38002 said, your transmission will have 2 filters, a spin on, and one that's held in with a T20 screw. Also, it won't be a gasket it will be silicone.

How much fluid do you think I'll need to ship up here for a pan drop? Is 10 over kill?

Ya 10 is overkill. It's usually around 5-6L. So 7 would make sure you have more than enough.

Doing it yourself is pretty easy and if you do while you have it drained you can also add a drain plug. Replace both filters (spin on and pan filter) which to me is the most important part and feel good about it being done right. I use the black ATV or "the right stuff" either work very well. It is not the most pleasant jobs that was why I added the drain plug.
