Trans Temp Gauge Install Questions

I will be getting my autometer 8549 gauge on monday and i am just curious as to where im going to tap the gauge into for the back light to come on when the parking lights are turned on. I will be installing it in my srt-10 a-pillar. Any suggestions? I also bought an extra trans pan and some bungs to weld in for the sending unit and a drain plug. Any input on this would be helpful. Thanks.

You can tap off of the illumination wire on the headlight switch. Its an orange wire with a brown trace but there are two so you need to test each with a probe and see which gets power when the switch is turned on. Also, you dont need a new pan with a **** welded in. The trans has a test port you can tap into. Remove the bolt from the test port and thread in the adapter, which should be included with the gauge.

Also dont forget to use silicon tape on the adapter.

I have silicone spray and teflon tape. Is that what you are talking about? I also have decided to put the sending unit in to test port 3 opposed to the trans pan.

So if im right it will be pin 2 that i will tap into. Correct???
