Transfer Case Issues need help

I inherited my fathers 2002 4.7 4x4, this morning I used the 4x4 for the first time in a while and the grommet from the interior shifter to the shift linkage. I am going first thing tomorrow to get a replacement grommet and have put it in 2wd by crawling underneath the truck. ( one position from closest to engine right?) The problem is that the 4x4 light on the dash has will not go off and it seems that it is still engaged. I can cylce through all modes, and the light only goes off when the linkage is fully forward. Any ideas? It seams like the 4x4 will not disengage, can go to neutral, and I think 4 hi and low but not off. Sorry for the long post, but not familar with the vehical at all.Thanks

4x4 light on ALWAYS!

I also have a problem like this my 4x4 light is on always verythimg seems to be working just did transfer case fluid change since it was low thought that could have been it but still on any held with this would be great! Also o found what I think is a vac line off on top of transfer case it is a peace of metal cingular out on top of case and has a bend on it going towards the front is as round as. Ciggerette any ideas where this would go or is it for ventilation ?
