You add any type of additive and you're pretty much guaranteeing you a rebuild in the future.

Alot of people don't realize just how strict Chrysler is with ATF+4 approval. When a sample is sent to them to be approved, they are VERY meticulous on how it's blended and that it meets their requirements.

And to save you a little money, when you buy ATF+4, don't get the expensive name brand stuff. Go to Advance and buy their Advance Auto Parts ATF+4. Advance buys it from Ashland (Valvoline) in bulk and it is shipped to their bottlers and packaged as Advance brand.

alright thanks Adam. was I correct in the 5 qts?

I was thinking about Lucus or seafoam additives but you don't think it's really necessary?

Personally, from my experience over many years and many vehicles is that any tranny or engine oil additives are a waste of money at best and cause damage over time at worst.

The exception being some fuel additives like injector cleaners or dry gas once in a while.

Not only is it not necessary, it's just asking for trouble. Straight ATF+4 is all these transmissions need.

And service fill on a 46RE is 3.79 liters which is just a hair over 4 quarts...5 should do you well. I would add 4 quarts to it, then crank it up and go through all the gears one at a time, sitting in each gear for a couple seconds, then recheck it and top it off.
