Hello, I'm new to this forum and want to ask if anyone has done a transmission flush on their 5.7 hemi. I haven't found much info on the flush vs. Fluid change. I have 105,000 on my ram 14 sport. The manual states this is a lifetime oil. Doesn't even have a recommended fluid change interval. I pull a heavy ( bumper pull) horse trailer.
I want to change fluid because I'm sure it needs it. Thanks.

Pan drop, fluid and filter change every 30K miles from then on would be my recommendation. "Flushes" are a mix bag in terms of results and nothing I would risk with a current good running transmission system.

Yea, at this point I think thata what I'll do is a pan / filter change. Thanks.

An oil extractor/filler is your best friend with this 8-speed. I already got one for oil changes on my 2018 Pacifica Limited. I can not believe I lived without one before.

Link to your model? Someone else on this forum (Burla, U&A or Syn...I get those guys confused 'cause they frequently sound like the same person, hah!) just got one and loves his, too. Such a tool sounds like just the thing for us long-term 8-speed owners.

Since they mechanically heat the 8 speed and it has a very thin spec, it is a certain type pf base oil. Also, you likely need to do transfer case, is it a 4x4? Maybe h395 will pop in or PM him, he has options other then the unicorn fluid Ram asks you to use, I believe specifically for a 2014, I don't know what other years have that transfer case? Do you have the 8 speed or the 6 speed? Very different flush procedures.

8-speed, mind you he changes his transmission fluid a lot, you may want to use pao based fluid unless you want to change it a lot.

Bottom line, you need to decide whether you will do a full transmission flush. It can be a two day job and dropping the pan and putting it back correctly, it takes a good amount of time for the atf to dry and cure before filling. it is such a pita for most folks that is why I highly recommend using redline transmission fluids. It is an ester based fluid that doesn't break down with heat like a mineral oil does, it doubles or triples the interval.

For the 6 speed the correct redline transmission fluid is C+, for the 8 speed the correct redline fluid is d6. For the 6 speed it is a no brainer, redline is the way to go. If you have the 8 speed, you can also opt for ZF pao based fluid. Vendor here Nick at got exhaust has dirt cheap prices on redline, saves you over the posted prices on redline site. Last I checked I could not find anyone who sells it cheaper. PM nick from ram forum, you will be blown away how low he sells it. This stuff is the real deal, redline hardly ever puts sales on their products. It isn't cheap to make, and that industry is so competitive it is hard to sell stuff that costs more. However, redline thrives because they make the best stuff. Up front cost is a little more, but since you double the interval is pays for itself, not to mention the labor to change the fluid.

For towing heavy you really should consider redline in gears and transmission, engine doesn't matter as much.

How does the extractor work for the 8 speed when the only way to drain it is pull the plug and wait for gravity?

I have that exact extractor but without a dipstick tube, not quite sure how it helps on the 8hp70 (and to be honest over never really been happy with it on any oil change either...always questioning if I got it all or not)

There is a plug above the pan where you can insert the tube from the extractor. Pump out the fluid in the pan so you don't make a mess by just dropping the pan. Also you can use it to pump the fluid back in. If you want to get fancy you can get a JohnGuest ball valve so you can pump it up and have control of how much goes in. Also after you replace the pan with the filter you could drive the truck for a while then just evacuate the pan and refill to get more of the fluid out that was in the converter when you did it the first time. Yes you would be taking out some of the new fluid too but whatever you think is best to do.

When I used the extractor on my Pacifica the first time I pulled the drain plug after and maybe 1/8 of a cup of oil came out. So the extractor is good enough for me.

If you're doing a transmission service on the 8 sp,Johns / Boosted's video is very good, except he misses jacking the truck up till the pan rail is level with the ground front to rear and side to side. When I put a brand new 8 sp in my truck a couple months ago, they are very specific in the factory instructions that came with the transmission about having the pan rail level.
