Hello! Thank you for reading this! I have a 1984 Dodge D100 Custom with a 4 speed A833 manual behind a 318 5.2. As far as i can tell. Since I got it I've had issues getting it into first, it sat for 6 years before I drove it home, and into second a bit. Well, I changed the tranny fluid(Took out what seemed to be 42 year old ATF) And replaced it with Penngrade GL4 Classic vehicle 80W90 Gear Oil. When I fired it up and took it for a test drive, the clutch worked beautifully at the start, ohhh it was so smooth finding first, and then the shifting was immaculate....For two blocks, and then it feels like I can't get it into anything besides 3 or fourth, Reverse it CLUNKS into good and solid, real solid feeling, and the clutch feels funky. While I was trying to find the gears and pressing down there was no grinding but a whirring. I got it into second and yeet skeeted the old thing home, that 318 is PLENTY alive with a Lucas oil change. The truck has no rust besides light surface rust on the frame, and the body is beat up so I'll absolutely rebuild that simple transmission myself if I gotta, it's my project truck to hopefully give my kid someday, but like....Did I do a major no no with the Gear Oil? I made sure it was GL4. I fought that ancient plug out of there and filled it til it ran down the side. I plan to adjust the clutch, and if that doesn't fix it, while I got the trans out possibly rebuilding it to just slap a new clutch onto it. This truck feels like Lego with how simple it is compared to anything modern I've had to grow up working on, so I'm gung ho for bout doing anything to it haha.

Better have a close look at the shifter linkages.

If that all checks out, then I would be suspecting shift fork pads, and/or worn bearings causing misalignment inside the trans.
