I have a 2014 1500 with 68k miles on it. 8 speed transmission. It started shifting hard into 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear and would occasionally get stuck in 4th gear (limp mode) and I'd have to turn the engine off to get it out of limp mode. Had the transmission fluid changed (not a full flush, just fluid change), and the next morning it did it again and the CEL came on. Took it to a transmission shop and they got P0733 and another code about the clutch, but I didn't write it down. They said I need a new transmission, and quoted me $8k. Kept driving it and it drove fine for a while, but it shifted hard again today and the CEL came on. P0733 again.

Anyone have any other ideas as to what this might be before I bite the bullet on a new transmission?

By chance is the truck or transmission tuned,a crappy transmission tune will burn up an 8 speed faster then you can say lickity split.

Google search turned up this for that code:

Solenoids and maybe a valve body are common failure points and a lot cheaper to replace than the entire tranny. I know throwing parts at things is frowned upon but before spending 8K may be worth a try.

Not that I'm aware of, but is worth checking to see if the previous owner did something like that.

I've read a bit about the solenoids, was hoping someone on here has had a similar issue and they found success replacing solenoids. But it's worth starting there if it saves $$ in the long run.
