Just wanted to say Hi to everyone as I'm new here. So,,,,,,,, Hi everyone !

'96 Ram 2500 4X4 5.9L club cab. 46re tranny

So my tranny took a crap and have been looking around for a while for a good used one. I own a tree service and work has been really slow the past couple of months due to weather. Equaling out to tight budget. I finally found someone close (on craigslist) that works at Chrysler dealership that has a 46re for 500.00. He put new clutchs, steels, and front band in it. Said everything else looks good inside. Not sure of the mileage.

I've never taken the tranny out on this truck so I'm just hoping I might be able to get some help from you guys in the near future. Really it looks like the worst part is gonna be dealing with all the rusty bolts. Will be spraying them down a couple days ahead of time. Been doing a lot of reading and searching so at least I can minimize the questions I might have.

1...... I'm not sure if the TC is included with it. But that is one question I have right now. What do you all advise if the TQ comes with it, Should I take a chance on using it or go ahead and buy a good re-manufactured or new one?

2...... And last question, any upgrades you suggest without breaking tranny open ? Other than valve body, I might feel comfortable removing VB but don't want to go any deeper than that.

Wayne

Again, glad to be here and thank you for any help

Hey Wayne - Welcome to the forum.

I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable people on trannys will chime in but as far as TC's are concerned I would go ahead and get a good Reman or a new one - no telling how many miles are on the one that comes with the new tranny (if there is one) and since the tranny will already be down you might as well.

Best of luck

I would contact Performance Automatic Transmission Center (PATC) for the torque convertor. I wish the guy that re-built my trans didn't talk me into going with his parts center for a 70$ convertor. Not that it failed or anything but from drag racing I know you can make or break everything with a torque convertor... PATC also offers a bunch of small parts, they would be worth a call for you to see what all they can hook you up with (prices are fair)

Thanks guys, BoredandStroked, I will give them a call as soon as I can get some work done. Be glad when this crazy ass weather clears. Just not able to get into peoples yards to do anything.
I know PATC has quality products. Wish I could have just bought a tranny from them but maybe down the road.

1 other question......... If I add an auxiliary cooler would it be best to install inline after the factory cooler ?
