2000 1500 5.2 Magnum, automatic transmission runs hot in hot weather, after 30 minutes of driving, OD will shut off and then idiot light comes on; smells like burnt tranny fluid; but fine in cooler weather.
Shifts fine, acts fine.

What can I do? 20210626_115141.jpg

Do you have the 46RE transmission?

My 2001 did the same thing, trans temp light and lost overdrive. I got it into Aamco before it completely went tango uniform. I think it was a stuck valve, but it burned it up enough to need a complete rebuild.

Hopefully, you can get it fixed before a rebuild is necessary.

Does the converter go into lockup? What happens a lot is the converter takes a crap and quits going into lockup. In 4th/OD there's very little fluid flow through the converter so it just burns the hell out of it. In high school and right out of high school I rocked a no-lockup overheating condition for like 3 years and 50k miles by running 2 massive rv coolers and changing it every 15k. Kept ticking right along but it hated me lol
