I have recently had two failed attempts from online parts stores to get me the right shift solenoid. Two deliveries and two wrongly picked transmission solenoids. I need to know what transmission is in my truck. It’s a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab, 2 wheel drive, 4.7 liter engine. I took a picture of the manufacturer tag on the transmission pan. It reads TITTJ279220709 P52119494AL
494 rfe 09:48:50. Any help on what transmission I need the part for will be a lot of help. Thank u in advance

What solenoid, not valve body solenoid? How many gears do you have? It is likely a 65rfe. You don't have shifter *** correct?

45rfe you have 4 gears, 545 rfe you have 5 gears, 65rfe and 66rfe and 68 rfe you have 6 gears, and then 8 gears is another transmission. the 66 and 68 are HD tranny's, so if you have 6 gears it is most likely a 65rfe.

As someone who sold transmission parts for 5 years I can tell you there are only 3 solenoid blocks, black (the oldest for 45 rfe and not used anymore) white (came out for 545 RFE) and gray (came out with the 65RFE) gray blocks have been a long time problem, the thing is white can be used in place of the gray block and some transmission shops will only put white blocks in.

That is good info and we have posted that just for clarification, white solenoid can be used x2 with a 7 ball separator plate.

You are going to need a GRAY solenoid pack.

Drop the pan, and drop the valve body. Disconnect the solenoid connector from the left side of the transmission.

Take out the (6) 8MM valve body bolts around the side of it, after it’s out, let it drip for around 30 minutes.

Once done, remove all solenoid bolts from the valve body, using the diagram seen below:

d6393f011a9c814ba3b529cf29239b57.jpg

After that’s done, put on the new solenoid pack, and tighten the 2 bolts down with the arrows seen in the diagram to 50 LB-FT/TQ and then tighten down the rest to the same torque spec.

Re-attach valve body to the transmission and re-torque the valve body bolts to 8 LB/FT/tq.

Reattach pan & pan bolts, torque pan bolts to 8 lb/fr/tq again, and after, fill up tranny with 6 qts of ATF+4 and youre hood to go. Be sure to check the fluid level and make sure it’s good.

I believe it has 5 gears. The failed solenoid has me stuck in 4th gear. I can kill the truck and start it and it will reset and go in drive but when you start to move it drops back down in 4. No shifter knob. So by chance is it a factory recall because it sounds like from what I’ve read it needs to be.

Is the white solenoid and plate a cheaper route than going with the $300 grey one? Probably $400 with all the filter and gaskets

do me a favor, go to truck start it, and try N or D and press the - button on shiftier it will probably say 1? Anyhow, regardless, press - until it says 1, then just shift up or + until it stops, and that number is a 5??

could be your issue, so your 2013 has a 545 this could be why you are having a hard time finding the part, most of them should have 6 speed.

I haven’t taken it apart. I wanted to get the part first. So I went to the truck, started it, and shifted to neutral. I pressed + and -. No response at all. I killed it and restarted in park of course, moved the column shifter to D. After a few seconds it automatically kicked it into 4. Pressed the - and no response. Pushed the + and it shifts to D and back to 4. Pushed + again and it shifted to D and then automatically kicks back down into 4.

Sometimes it will stay in drive for a few minutes, sometimes for a few seconds. But ultimately it will go back into 4 and stay there until you turn the truck off and restart it. It will always go into Drive but not for long
