I've got a 2012 1500 with a 6-speed auto right now and it's beginning to feel like it's on the way out. I don't really want another 6 speed so I was thinking how hard it may be to swap in the 845RE from the newer models into an older truck. Any one have any knowledge on that?

Nope.

We've been waiting for someone with deep pockets and serious skills to do the legwork.

Once someone figures out whether or not the 6 speed trucks PCM will play well with the 8 speeds control module, what programming needs done, how to do it, etc, there will be lots of members here willing to follow suite.

Like the BW 44-44 to 44-45 swap. Its expensive and risky. Were all waiting for someone else to buy thousands$$ in parts at the risk of it not working.

Once someone does it, verifies that it works, then posts up the instructions on here. Youll have lots of followers, me included.

The 6 speed rfe can be great if you do the upgrades and fix the weaknesses, with a tune and shift point modification. Give these two video's a watch and learn everything there is to know about the rfe before you make your choice.
