I took two trips to advanced auto trying to get the right tranny filter about 5 months ago and they finally gave me one that looked just like the one I brought in to show them and I seriously couldn't tell the difference. well I got home and went to put on the tranny pan and part of the filter(arrow is pointed to it in pic) hit it so I was pissed and took a hacksaw and trimmed it to make it fit. any idea if this could cause a problem cause my truck just doesn't want to climb hills like it used to? it must have been for a tranny with a deeper pan or a 4wd now that I think of it.

4x4 has a deeper pan then the 2wd. If yours is a 2wd pan you need the shorter flat filter.

Agreed. I just found out about the filter differences, myself.

Not to derail too bad, do you replace the sump (round, I'm guessing?) filter the same time you do the pan filter?

I replace both when I service the trans, not sure what the manual recommends though. I always thought the pan filter was the sump filter, but I may have them mixed up.

Whenever I drop the pan I change both filters. The flat filter can be difficult to get seated properly. Take your time in seating it.
