Hello all, I would like to share my recent vehicle troubles to gather a wider perspective of knowledge. So to sum up what is going on my truck seems to act up when it rains. First occurrence my truck drove like it was running out of gas then eventually stalled. After checking spark and fuel I cornered it down to bad injectors since fuel pressure was good and starting fluid started her right up. New BOSCH injectors installed vroom truck started right up. I wondered how all the injectors could go bad but when I dropped the tank it had a decent amount of water and contamination since the lock rings were rotted out and disintegrated which lead me to believe was the cause of the injectors failing.

After a few days go by it rains again I did drive for a bit but when I came back to the truck it would not start. I immediately noticed there wasn't the usual loud fuel pump sound but I could hear a faint sound when I would get close to the tank. I setup a test light to the fuel pump turn key to on and the test light turns on for the priming duration. I bought a fuel pump but I am hesitant to install it because deep down I really think the TIPM is really the cause or maybe a bad ground some where.

Does anyone have a good ground schematic the alldata I have gives me nothing but these 8-w13 locations which makes no sense to me. Any help would be appreciated thank you.

another thing to try,

Replace the Fuel Pump Relay
if that does not make a difference, try by passing the Fuel Pump Relay

Another thought, if you have fuel pump pressure
You should be able to contain some fuel in a clear glass jar & let it settle. You will be able to see if there is water in the tank

I did have water in the tank. I cleaned and cleared that all out. I am wondering if it really is my fuel pump relay or a bad ground creating voltage drop. I just know that two times it rained and two times my truck went bad. Could the second one be coincidence? Idk because I re used the fuel pump and I am getting signal every time.

What is fuel pressure at when key on, idle and driving?

Am taking your when it rains thought as when you are driving it and it's raining, correct? Or you're having issues at idle when raining as well and truck never moved?

Sorry I don't have ground locations for your truck. I've certainly chased some fun one in my time due to ground issues as well.

Fuel pressure went to zero.

The second time I drove the truck in the rain and went to the store everything was fine. It was like 2 hours later when I went back to the truck to leave it wouldn't start.

I just put the new Delphi fuel pump in. The old fuel pump was bad it would not turn on when I applied an external power source to it. Sometimes it would intermittently pump but 9 times out of 10 it would do nothing so I knew I had to replace.

What is bugging me now is what made my fuel pump go bad. The fuel filter sock on the OEM was really dirty. You could see all the dark debree inside of it. I am hoping that was my issue. Maybe the pump was working extra hard. The ground wire on the connector has a very slight brownish color to it telling me it was running hotter than usual. But it wasn't that bad so I didn't replace it. I just hope that was it and I don't have to mess with the TIPM.

As far as the ground goes I wonder if it goes back to the TIPM and then to chassis ground. I have never had to chase a ground so I can't share your pain but I believe you.

First off that Delphi pump is not OEM, to start with I would purchase the OEM one, brownish ground wire is not good replace, yes the filter sock being clogged caused the pump to work harder, also do you keep the tank level at about 1/2 running it lower than that can cause the pump to run hot, you may have a pump relay problem that is in the TIPM, this link enclosed, these guys sell a fuel pump relay bypass cable to check to relay, and they can repair it for you at a reasonable cost.

lets back this up, just a bit.

Water/ Debris, in the fuel tank.
Re read that. Savor it for a while.

When. Why. Where. How.
Literally everything described, since, in this thread, starts with water debris in fuel tank.

Side NOTE:
B4 going to far, any wire that is discolored, Replace it.
Wire serves one purpose, only one, allow electrical draw.
When wire breaks 'Down", it tends to discolor, indicating excessive draw and more headaches.
Replace it, or do, what you just did, again and again and again.
Up to you.

Got to figure out the water getting into tank issue.
Is it the rain?
Where you buy our fuel?
Combination of both and ambient atmostpheric moisture content
tipped things over the edge?
How did the water and debris enter the tank?

Don;t be happy with ti runs.
Be happy when it is fixed adn you do not have to do this again.

good luck and report back

This is what I could come up with, here is a really good LINK all about diagnosing a bad ground and what voltages should be.

Here is A diagram of 8W-15 ~ for 06 and 07. If this LINK and this LINK don't work Dm me.

Otherwise I just found a basic for a 5.7

The "8-W13" refers to section eight of the Ram service manual, W13 the specific wiring diagram.

Our local library has Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth service manuals for older vehicles on the shelf. You might give that a try.
