I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a pair of Tuf Truck rear coils for my 2012 Ram Crew Cab 4x4. I put a bilstein level on it and am left with about 1/2" rake which I like. I may want to increase the rake just a bit more with a spacer in the future.

Looking to reduce the squat when I put smaller loads in, and tow my 2 place sled trailer. Also pull a camper occasionally , but it has equalizer hitch. Not wanting to go the airbag route though.

Just wondering if anyone has some feedback on these springs? I am leaning toward the 1223v or the 1211's. Want to keep a descent ride also, when not loaded. Does the 1211's possibly raise the ride height 1/2" too?

Thanks for any input you guys can give me before I buy.

I had the 1211’s on my 1500, it changed the ride so it felt more like a truck, but with smaller loads it was good and with my camper it sat almost level. Bills were set to 2.8 in the front and I had a little rake.

Thanks, Think I am going to go with the 1211's. Just worried how harsh the ride would be. Also heard it may give 1/2-3/4"more ride height which would be good also.

I liked the ride, it was like driving my wife’s Durango anymore, felt like I had a truck again.

I have the 1211’s along with the Bil 5100’s and it’s definitely a firmer ride but wouldn’t call it harsh. FWIW the springs didn’t raise the rear at all really. Maybe an 1/8” depending on how I would look at the tape lol. I ended up adding a 3/4 spacer to get the lift that I needed.

I went with the 1211 and could not be happier. I did notice a slight ride hieght increase, ovs stock s[prings but I also have a A.R.E. Topper on the truck and I imagine the OEM springs just plain squateed more, under that weight. Regarding ride quality: I have always had 3/4 tont rucks and prefer a stiffer ride,in my trucks. that said, the ride is nothign like my 3.4 tons with bilsteins. though it is stiffer than the OEM springs. OEM Springs actually bothered me to no end. truck felt like an old 70's caddy the way it rolled in curves or sharp interstate onramps, drove me nuts.

none of that occurs now. NOTE, I di dchange shocks ove to bilsteins when I swapped the springs over to tuftruck so that may also have helped firm up the ride and handling cahacterisitcs of the truck.

BNottomm line, I have yet to come across anyone who has not enjoyed upgrading their springs to either the 1211 or the 1223V.

I wrote Tuf Truk and told them I tow a pop up camper or a small landscaping trailer once in a while and also use the bed for medium loads. Told them I wanted a spring to reduce the ridiculous squat these trucks have while maintaining the factory ride without lowering the back of the truck.

They told me to get the 1210. I plan on doing that and adding 5100's as well.

My original email:

"

Hello,

I have a 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 Quad Cab Express and was interested in swapping out the rear coils. I read a lot of info on forums and wanted to go directly to the source.

What I want: A little less sag when towing my small pop up camper or small loads from Home Depot What I don't want: A 3/4 ton type of feel and I don't want to lose and ride height (don't want the back end to be lower due to a spring change).

I have read that some of the springs will cause the back end to sit lower then stock and I would like to avoid that. Since I am only hauling light loads (towing 2500 pounds), I am just looking to reduce the amount of sag that these trucks get when you use them as trucks. I wouldn't mind a slightly stiffer ride but if you can give me everyhting above and have me not lose my ride quality, that would be great.

Look forward to your response."

Response back:

Good morning Mark,

I believe the appropriate kit for your requirements would be TUFTRUCK TTC-1210 This kit replaces the OEM coils with tougher coils without lowering or raising your vehicle.

Feel free to either call or shoot me back an email if you have any further questions!

Thank you,
"

I'm very pleased with my 1211's and TGC 3/4" spacers. 5100s F/R with the fronts set at 2.1". Truck rides like a truck and doesn't squat near as much when there is a bit of weight back there. The hitched up picture is slightly deceiving since we didn't adjust the hitch for my truck (Parent's trailer/hitch) and my back wheels are sitting in a nice rut from the old man getting his 2500 stuck(2wd). The trailer also wasn't squared away for transport (gets used as an office and guest "house") so we roughly figured it was sitting around 900-1k on the hitch. I liked the level look it had before, but it was worthless when I needed to do truck things unless I wanted to ride around with that stupid noise high squat and a floaty front end on the highway. Since I took this picture the truck has leveled out just ever so slightly, but still handles that kind of load no problem.

So the 1210 springs would work on a 6" RC lift due to the lift reusing g stock springs and adding a 4"spacer? I also hate the squat I get when I have a heavy load in the bed of the truck.

So 1210 load rate goes up 25%
1211 rate goes up 50%.

Does running the 1211 compared to 1210's make a difference ride wise?

Could you possibly get a measurement on the rear to the wheelwell with the 1211 set up? Im going to pull the factory air ride and do coils and would like to know what measurement is to get an idea what height would be. Thanks.

normal ride 38.5"
OffRoad 1 39.5
Offroad 2 40.5

Id like to get at about 40. Not sure what the normal ride height difference if any is between the factory stock coil system height is and the air ride height is that i am pulling out.

Not familiar with the air ride height.
My stock Express crew cab measured 39 1/4 bone stock with the factory 33's
40 1/8 after doing 315/70/17's.
41 1/8 after Icon springs
So any of the 1-1.5" springs wll put arund 1-1 1/2 higher, add a 1" spacer if you need more.
You may go up a little more if your air bags in normal mode are the ones responsible for the 3/4 less lift.

1211's on stock 275/60/20 wheels will give you 39" +/- 0.5"

For increased height you might want 1223VT. Will give you 1-1.5" lift running empty, the VT should be a softer ride.
The 1223's are designed to be constantly loaded with a #500 load, so they will should sit a bit higher unloaded vs. the 1211's. Might give you a fairly firm ride.

If going from air to coil, don't forget the stock coil also has a rubber isolator on top of the spring - you will also need those or a poly spacer such as a

1211's or 1223V rear springs with the above spacer will put you in the 40.5-41.5" height.

Do you need to replace the OEM shocks if you add the xhd 1211 spring? I am towing more lately and getting tired of the squat and mushy feeling

No unless your shocks have a bunch of miles already (Ex more than 50k miles) If that was the case you can also benefit from fresh shocks and you can use stock height shocks. Most of the TT springs are actually shorter than stock so going with a longer shock is not in your best interest for such applications unless you add an spacer to them.
Have fun.

How much shorter? My truck is level right now, not looking for it to have a squat
