Uconnect 8.4N software version 15.41.4

I upgraded to an 8.4N, I assume it is a 2016. The part number is 68258671AF

The software version in it is 15.41.4

I searched the forum for that number and nothing comes up. Is this an older version? Would there be any benefit to updating the software? I've read the horror stories of people bricking their head unit by messing up the update so I am scared to try. And I don't know the year or vin of the truck that my unit came from.

Also, Siri does not work. When I hold the VR button, "Siri" comes up on the screen but it does not hear me. The screen will stay up until I cancel by hitting the button again. I know the mic is hooked up right because I can talk on the phone using the handsfree.

So should I update the software? Would that solve the Siri issue? Other than that, I really like the 8.4 a lot.

You can always take it to the dealer to update it for free.

I didn't think that was an option since the 8.4 didn't come in my truck... Its a tradesman and it had the NOconnect radio from the factory.

Are you sure that I could have the dealer update my 8.4 even though it was originally installed in another truck???

When you try "siri" do you hear a "beep" after it pops up on the screen??? I know sometimes mine has a delay and it takes a minute for the "beep" so I can hear to her.

Yes it beeps through the speakers - the same sound as when you activate siri on the phone. And when you use the VR button to activate siri, a purple bar appears at the top of the phone screen like it's listening, but it can't hear me.

Note: if you did the 8.4 conversion (hey, link to fw thread there too) and the radio's model year doesn't match the year of the truck, I wouldn't trust a dealer to load the correct FW !!?;!

Thank you for the response, but I did search that thread for this firmware version - I searched for "15.41.4" and no results came up.

I did find the part number for my radio - apparently member GYSOT has confirmed that it must have come from a 2016 Truck (correct me if I am wrong) I don't know how else I could confirm that it is in fact from a 2016.

Also, I see mixed reviews regarding the latest firmware 16.09.09 so I am not sure if I should attempt the update or not. Since this radio didn't come in my truck and I don't have any way to find out what the vin is for the donor truck I am scared to attempt the update unless someone can tell me its safe. And I don't know if the update will fix my siri issue anyway...

Have you tried re-pairing your phone? If not, I would suggest following the instructions below on how to delete and repair a phone.

1. Delete the pairing from the phone
2. Reset your iPhone (hold down the home button and sleep button together)
3. Delete the pairing from the radio
4. Pair the phone back to the radio.

Please let me know if this works.
