I called to renew the Uconnect subscription for my 2016 Ram. This would have been my 3rd renewal since new. The fee is almost $150/annual. I feel its an awful lot for what it does, and several audio features don't work because it needs a software update.
But, what really put on the brakes was a $111.00 California tax on top of it all. Outrageous! No more Uconnect for me, I'm done.

So it is not really FCA's fault CA has such ridiculous taxes. It seems you are aiming your ire at the wrong entity. You m might want to post this on the CA government taxing authority or DNC website since they seem to be the real cause of your ire.

Not sure why but I tend to get a discounted price in the early part of the year. $74.99 plus taxes in March this year.

I'm sorry my post was misunderstood.

Uconnect has cool features. I frequently use the lock/unlock, and remote start. Pandora was nice tool because you could control it from the screen rather than phone. But one of the coolest tools is "Send n Go". Find an address on your phone and send it to the truck. Then when you get in the truck, it's there waiting to navigate.
I was willing to pay the $150-/year. But, I just can't stand to pay the state of California another $111- tax for the convenience, that's ridiculous.

That's pretty cool, and I would prefer that since it could be done from a home computer. But, my "old" 2016 doesn't have either Android or Apple Play.

Buy a UAS or UAQ radio for your '14 truck, since your willing to pay the $150/yr and that will mean the $111 to the state of California also. In several years you will have paid for the upgraded radio and be able to use Android Auto/Car Play the whole time. Factory navigation leaves much to be desired.

I did the upgrade that Mpgrimm2 listed. Granted my truck is a 2018 so didn't need additional harness but I had basic radio. I set my Google maps either before I get in or can use radio screen once in truck to set destination (you can also use Google Assistant to do hands free map address entry) and I have most recent update all the time and don't pay for something that I can get for free. I added a 2019 UAS to my truck. Good luck.

I enjoyed the remote start feature when it worked which was about 50-60% of the time and the unlock.
But it was not worth the excess cost for the service. We kept it on my wifes Jeep for the winter time use
of starting it when she gets ready to leave work and the remote does not reach were she parks.
Many times I'd like the remote start feature but I'm just not willing to pay for it when it is not reliable,

I almost cancelled my subscription as well but they really helped me out in a bind. My toddler broke his arm back in April. Had to take him to a children's hospital in Atlanta to get patched up (about an hour from where we live). My brother in law was with us, but couldn't go in the hospital due to covid rules (wife was back home taking care of our newborn). He sat in my truck and waited on us. When we finally came out, he got out of the truck and left the keys inside and all the doors locked (still not sure how that happened). Here we were in a parking garage at 1AM in a place I'm not familiar with. I couldn't get my app to unlock the doors for some reason. I called Uconnect and the rep was able to unlock the doors from her end. Really helped us out of a jam. My subscription was coming to and end, so I decided to pay for another year.....just in case.

That was a good use of it.
I much of the time leave the keys in my vehicle,
when you use the app or the key fob to remote start it locks all the doors also,
at times I'll forget to unlock them and get out to the truck and the doors are locked,
have to go back in the house for the second fob and unlock the door,
really perturbs me when it's raining or snowing out.

I don't see any benefit to subscribe to un-connect. Nearly everyone I have come in contact with that has it says that it's so buggy it's almost useless on top of being expensive.
