For the last month or so I've toyed with the idea of going and buying something that has way more power than needed, and decided I want to try and go with the 5.9L Magnum, as it should be perfect. I do have questions though...

What is the true difference between the 318 and the 360? Is this a simple different between a stoke and perhaps some parts being different? I am inclined to believe that that is not the case, as some searches on Google have shown there to be a bunch of differences than just using my existing 318 and "turning it into" a 360.

Will I need a new transmission? Can I use my existing transmission?

You can use your existing transmission. The 1500 came with both motors and the same trans behind them. You will need a new flexplate, and a harmonic balancer for the 360.

I've never entirely unstood the difference between the two. It's more than just bore and stroke. However, a 360 is a better place to start playing. Bore it and stroke it to a 408, put some hot aluminum heads on it with a sweet bumpstick and have some fun!

The difference is in the bore, stroke, and cam.

I've heard the 360's use different heads compared to the 318's as well but I'm not sure if thats true or not. Other than that only differences I know are bore and stroke.
