Upgrading Uconnect S/W and Maps

I recently bought a 2016 2500 Outdoorsman (Cummins) with the UConnect 8.4AN Navigation System (RA4) in it. The FCA website indicates it needs a S/W update and I purchased a Maps update for it as they are way out of date.

After reading the instructions, it looks like I'm going to need to let the truck idle for 1/2 hour for the S/W update and another 45 minutes for the maps update. Is this really necessary? What will be the impact on the engine idling it for an hour and 15 minutes?

I didn’t have my truck running when I did my updates..... didn’t have any problems. I do my software update one night and then the map update the next night.

Well, I'll give it a try. I got a hint that they're concerned about the batteries going dead, but I really don't thing there's much risk of that.

** FYI. The latest v18.45.01 update for ALL 13-17 Ra3 VP3-NA and RA4 VP4-NA radios is in a separate thread at the moment & appears to require SW version 17.11.x or higher **

I did the S/W update from 18.11.07 to 18.45.01 today and the maps update too. The S/W update took about 30 minutes and the maps update took a whopping hour and 45 minutes. IT was all successful though and now I have maps up to date as of the 4th quarter of 2018. I'm surprised the latest maps are still that old, but it;s still four years newer than what was there before.
