Just read the write-up on the UPR website and I believe this should answer the installation direction questions:

UPR's Catch Can Diffuser offers multiple benefits: First, by vertically spacing the inlet screen to a position lower than outlet screen, oil which collects on the inlet screen is inhibited from migration to outlet screen. Thus, the amount of oil entering the exhaust side or outlet is substantially reduced or eliminated. Secondly, it makes it possible to adjust which side of the catch can is the inlet or outlet by simply installing the UPR diffuser in either chamber of your UPR catch can.

So, the diffuser position in your catch can will dictate the inlet/outlet position and you can switch it around based on your hose routing.

I for one need to read that several more times before I get it. :)

Not sure what that picture is?
But it is not the UPR can I have.

I just installed a the same UPR catch can that I ordered from Nick back in mid September. Fit and finish are awesome. I recommend getting the drain valve if you have not ordered it yet.

Anyway, I had the same question as you after looking at all the pictures and install instructions. It just didn't seem right, and not to mention looked like absolute crap with the hoses routed that way. So, I called UPR and asked.

I was informed that they recently changed the design of the catch can internals and now the new design works with the hoses routed either way.

Sure enough when it arrived, the diffuser looks different from that picture. It is NOT the "staircase" design. It has a circular sintered metal coalescer that sits more flush and even across the head of the catch can. So I installed it with the hoses uncrossed as UPR directly told me would be fine.

After two tanks of fuel, I drained it while I was filling up and sure enough it is working fine. Not a whole lot of oil after that kind of mileage but enough to see that it is working. Dare I say the truck sounds quieter on start ups since I have installed it. I had about 62K when it went on. Trying to max out the trucks longevity was the main reason I installed it. Any preventive thing I figure couldn't hurt and for what I paid for it I am more than pleased with what I am seeing and hearing from the truck. Good luck!

I hind sight, wish I would have snapped a picture of the new design before I installed it. I will try and get one this evening using the front camera on my phone. I will snap one of the drain valve too. It's just a ball valve that threads into the bottom of the can. This way you can drain it without having to unscrew it.

I hooked my UPR can up as described, PCV hose to front of can and throttle body hose from rear of can, works great with no issues. Hooked up as described has the throttle body hose coming from the higher chamber, if you switch it and run the lower chamber to the throttle body you could draw in liquid oil if it reaches the bottom of the chamber, right?

I hooked mine up so the hoses were not crossed. One word of warning. If you have an S&B intake there is no way to install it in either of the holes with the supplied bracket. The S&B box is much larger than stock. I got creative and rednecked it to my cold air intake box with some strapping. Not the prettiest but it’s solid.

Here is some pics of one of the CCs I am running. Its a UPR CC on a 6.2 GM motor.

This is just about 1,500 or so miles

My Coyote is away for the winter so I don't have any shots of that right now.

Is there a danger if running the hoses "reversed" without the new insert piece? I bought mine used and based on the hose lengths they were setup to not cross each other.

I'll try to get the part from upr but until then is it ok to leave it installed or should I pull it out temporarily?

I think the only difference is if you let the can fill up all the way to where the screens are immersed in oil.
Otherwise it'll work either way the hoses are routed. I check mine once a month and never have more than a few tablespoons in the bottom.

Thanks!

I went on UPRs website and saw that they sell the diffuser separately. Im not sure what the original looks like, but the one for sale looks like a "stepped" piece, which I could swear looks like what was already in my catch can. Not 100% sure about that, since I purchased mine used over a year ago...how recently did they start putting in the "can have whichever hose wherever" piece? Dunno.

I got my UPR Catch Can installed. According to my thinking LOL
Anyway a big surprise. It has been barely two and a half weeks. I needed to take it partially off to replace a hose. Mine ended up being a bit short. Worked ok but looked funny.
And here is what I found. Maybe an once of oil in the can. To me that is surprising. See pictures. Also a picture of the internals.

For what it’s worth, the catch can I just got from upr already had the hoses attached to the can, and the way they are routed would have the hoses crossed. I wonder if they are putting them on now so it’s no longer confusing. I put the attachment bolt in the lower hole on the block and that made the hoses the exact length they needed to be with no cutting while crossing each other.
