So the rubber heat shield on the bottom of my vararam has decided to dry rot and has fallen off on one side. I decided to rip most of it off instead of having it sit on the alternator. Anyone else had this issue? I emailed Moes Performance since I bought it from them but no response.

I've only had mine for about 6 months so no problem so far. Hate to see that, they are not cheap dollar wise.

Moe’s is hella backed up currently. I’ve not heard back from two weeks ago. Good luck.

How long have you had it. Thought of getting one but I'm undecided

I’ve had it for 5 or 6 years now. So a while. But for $350 I wouldn’t expect it to rot like that. Especially under the hood out of the weather.

As with anything under the hood, even a Vararam needs upkeep.
I'm cleaning the filter after almost a year using a K&N kit. Running a K&N E-1980 filter while the Vararam filter dries. Only difference is the K&N is 2" high vs the 3" V filter.
I also regularly wipe down the housing with Back to Black, including the underside.

Oh I clean mine once a year with the kit they gave me. And let it dry for a full day before putting it back on. Every or every other car wash I wipe down the top and sides. Just never thought about the rubber bottom.

I yanked mine off not soon after I set mine up, I've always considered just wrapping the bottom with heat reflective HVOC tape.
When I made my snorkel the air being forced in was hot because the snorkel would get hot to the touch after driving it, so I wrapped the backside with HVOC tape and it completely cured the problem.
So I did that to my AC lines and it immediately and dramatically improved the efficiency of the cold air coming out.
Looks like I'll go ahead and do it while working on my new project coming up.
