So after ive installed my aFe cai, which uses the bottom half of the original air box.. which draws in cold air from the fender. Ive been looking at this Vararam air filter. Can someone enlighten me as to what, if any, the difference is between the 2??

While reading a Vararam install post they said to disconnect the negative battery terminal for 2 hrs,, so when you re connect the battery after install yout truck goes through a re-learning stage. is this the same for ,,, say MY cai install?

Vararam is a CAI/ram air system. Yes the relearning is for pretty much any engine mod.

CAI you have sucks air from what looks like by your picture more of the engine bay, while the vararam has air force through it at speed, this allows it to pull a little more air (at speed, aka while driving). So at speed your going to get more power than a conventional CAI. Add a ported throttle body and its just that much more air.

Nah it gives the capacitors in the electrical system enough time to drain any residual energy they have stored. Like I know when working on air bag systems the manufacturer recommends unhooking the bat for 24hrs.

Oh I got ya. On my tundra it was only about 15 minutes of pulling the negative for a relearn on my AFE.

I had an airraid cai on my '11 sport. It was nice.
On my '13 I went with the vararam for it.
Definately like the vararam better as it's pulling more.
The one thing I did notice when I went to clean it this week was there was a ton of bugs in the filter.
Obviously where is scavenges air draws in a ton of bugs.
Still love it though.

yeah bugs can be a pain to get off the filter sometimes. I'm sure you could make a metal mesh goes by the opening to stop alot of that, kinda like MAF's use to straighten air, but then again that may restrict some air flow, and we can't be having that lol

correct me if I am wrong but you could cut down that time a lot by removing positive and negative and touching them together for a lil that would drain the capacitors faster then 2 hrs im no genious or noting but I think that's a lot easyer then waiting 2 hours to do that

30 minutes is all you need to reset the computer. If you disconnect the negative terminal before you start the install, and then reconnect when you are done, then you will be fine.

I been doing this years on several different Rams without issue. I just take the positive off the battery and hold it to something grounded for 30 seconds after each mod then reinstall the positive lead.
