OK, got a question for you guys. I have vinyl tint on my tails and am ready to go darker on them. I am going to use VHT on them to make them darker but before I can do it I need to get the vinyl off. Any tips or tricks to getting it off without having to pick a million little pieces of it off?

well try peeling slow... mine came off in one piece, its much tougher to tear than regular vinyl. if that dont work, try using little amounts of heat to help release the glue. Last trick goo gone or something in that nature. 3m make an awesome glue adhesive remover..

That is what I am hoping for, getting it to come off in one piece. Don't want to have to deal with little pieces that don't come off.

Hit it with a heat gun first?

Seems like heat is the way to go. I am going to try hair dryer first and if that doesn't work I will try the heat gun. Each piece has a tab I left on and hid behind the light so there is a piece to grab and pull on. I hope that makes it a little easier to get it started.

Get some ammonia and spray the tails with that before the heat. Then keep some ammonia handy and as you pull wipe with that. It should help some as well.

Ammonia and tint don't mix, which is why they tell you not to clean your windows with Windex and stuff like that once you have tinted them.

To clean outside of my windows I use Invisible Glass. If I have water spots I do use some diluted vinegar in water with newspaper. For the inside, on the tint, I use a special cleaner that I got from the tint place. I can't remember what its called...I lost the original bottle a long time ago. :hmm:

My tint shop just used warm soapy water, make sure it just dont have amon like stated. Teach you can prob pick up a cheap heat gun for 20 bucks and will find a bunch of uses for it.

Alex, alex alex. What on earth would you call vht garbage for? I tinted my third brake light my tails, Did 6 coats for my eyelids,(they are holding up just fine) I plan on using it on my nerf bars, insignias, and my chrome fuel cap. Even my skull hitch cover. All in an effort to ''black chrome'' my entire truck. Now do you seriously think IWould stoop too put ''garbage'' on my ''lady evel''? Shame on you. lol.

did my sons toyota tails,3rd brake, and turn signals with vht. never used it before. turned out looking alot better than i thought it would. 2 to 3 coats is a plenty. 3 coats and they were pretty damn dark. the license plate light are brighter than the tails, and reverse lights suck. lol yep "soft coats" for sure. it will run pretty easy.

sorry cannt help you on the removal. never been there.

soap & distilled water works good enough. for a 1 liter spray bottle I use just under a cap of soap. J&J baby soap, distilled water. never had any complaints.

Ammonia cleaners will also turn tint purple.

LOL what? It takes no more effort than if you were applying paint to an item.

These are obviously garbage though

You do sand them. 600g then 2000g. Just like paint.
