I have a broken lug on my 8 lug 2500 wheel. my question is can a half of a lug be burned off with an acetylene torch succussfully without damaging the stud? There is not a lot of the lug left. I tried to use a few extractor lugs and all they did was shave the lug. So I could possibly shave it thinner. i thought mabyr the torch could melt it without melting the stud. PICS might be hard because its in the hole. Only about an inch + of the lug in there.
Update:so I tried to hammer the lug removal socket up over the lug with a sledge and it mushroomed alot of it against the rim. So again womdering if a torch might melt the rest.IMG_3944.jpeg

I'd be worried about the torch heat destroying the wheel. Aluminum melts at a significantly lower temp that steel.

I just realized that part of the lug nut is still in there, making removal of the wheel difficult. In this case, I would use a drill diameter slightly larger than the stud diameter and drill the stud out. After it is gone, remove the wheel and replace the broken stud.
