I recently bought a 2009 1500 SLT, I’ve been hearing a strange noise and need some help figuring it out.

When I accelerate, usually in low RPMs there’s a weird metal vibration noise I hear. Once the RPMs get higher it goes away. Doesn’t effect driving, just annoying.

Anyone have an idea what may be the issue?

Could be a lot of things, unfortunately. Does it sound like it is coming from the engine? From underneath the truck? The rear?

My 2013 had a metal vibration noise from around 25-40 MPH when accelerating, especially around certain RPMs. Turns out, after doing a boat load of research, it was a metal clip on top of the exhaust, on the clamp a little further back from the Y-pipe. It was a small clip that aided in assembly of the exhaust at the factory, so it was no longer needed; broke it off, and problem solved.

Thats just one story, and it was only on the 8-speeds from 2013 or so. Just an example to show you that it could be many things, need a bit more info from you to help give you some ideas.

Could be your brakes if it goes away with speed. The pads not releasing from the rotors. We really need to know where you think the sound comes from and anything weird that might separate it from other noises. Like does it matter if the truck is moving or can you hear it sitting still or at idle?? The more we know the better a direction we can point you towards.

To me it sounds like it’s underneath me, maybe by the exhaust.

Check all your exhaust heat shields. Quite often a rock will get hung up in one....

**EDIT** Hah! @Gabe Johnson beat me to it...

Does it do it when u start the truck and just let it sit? Or in park at low acceleration? Or in reverse/drive when not moving? If u can get it to do it when trucks not moving, go around to your tail pipe and press down on it with your foot. If vibration sound stops with the pressure from your foot it's your exhaust somewhere loose. That's how I found mine. Good luck

My first guess would be exhaust pipe rubbing on metal too somewhere.

I don’t hear it when sitting or in reverse, only when going forward usually in low speeds, sounds like a price of metal vibrating on another under the truck.
