I had a 04 f150 on 37's with 4.56 and it got 11ish mpg pulling my 16' utility trailer and yamaha utv and now with my ram 5.7 with 3.92 and 275/65/20 I'm getting 10 mpg on my 700 mile road trip this passed weekend......def was hoping better then that for these newer trucks.....really disappointed not looking to get 18-19 but 10 really trailer and utv combined weigh less then 3k

You need to put more miles on your truck and break the motor in. Then you should be getting better mileage.

I have had 3-5 mpg difference pulling the same trailer/load on different trips. Wind, hills, & my mood are all factors

whats funny is i was pulling probably a 9000 pounds toy hauler w/ bikes getting about 10mpg. Pulling a utility or landscape trailer, i get about 13 (probably 1500 pounds max ). If youre going to tow , load that baby up

Your Ford seems to have been exceptional. I had an '03 F-150 4x2, reg cab for a company truck for a while, and it got 9-10 pulling my trailer, and about 15 empty.

I haven't yet towed my travel trailer for any distance yet, but am not expecting much in the way of mpg. Realistically above 8 will be okay. ~6000 pound travel trailer with a small atv trailer behind.

on 37's with 4.56 gears and you got that pulling a trailer? I would have been surprised to see you get that empty. Every truck I have owned until now has been a Ford (couple random GMs in there too) and I have never seen that kind of mileage pulling anything. My '10 would only get past 9mpg with a trailer if the whole trip was downhill.

Like mentioned- let that thing break in a bit. You'll see a difference.

Everyone remember winter blend fuel too. I'm not sure what areas do it but here in Oregon they just switched about a month ago and my mileage has taken a huge dive. I was seeing about 14.5 with a mix of city/hwy and am now seeing 12.5. Could also be the remote start and letting the truck warm up in the driveway on icy mornings. Wind, hills and other stuff too, as mentioned.

Don't panic too much OP. My mpg were pretty low at first and seem to have improved overall.

something not right there. i pulled a 18ft car trailer with a 8000lbs tractor and got about 12mpg. with that same trailer and an ATV i hardly even notice it being any different then empty

also as mentioned above winter fuels are horrible. i'm noticing about a 5mpg difference compared to summer blends

This is my findings on the RAM trucks. I have had 2 now, my 13 Laramie with a 6 spd 3.55 open 4x4 crew, and my 14 Sport 8 spd 3.92 LSD 4x4 crew. Both were junk on mileage till I hit around 5000 miles. Then I saw quite a bit better fuel wise.

Now I travel to Canada every year with quite a load some 450 miles. Big boat loaded with fuel, gear for 3 people and I also put a 55 gallon reserve tank in my box and fill it, because Canadian fuel is expensive.

I get around 14-14.5 both ways with my 13 and 14 RAM's. Although my 14 pulls waaaay better with the transmission and 3.92 gears.

If you're doing 85 gas mileage sucks. If in the winter good luck! Winter grade fuel greatly kills my mileage. Also a head wind or tail wind will effect mileage as well.

I make the drive nearly every weekend from Goldsboro, NC to Norfolk, VA. its only 200 miles one way, and my 03' makes it on a half tank when I’m empty and using cruise. The same drive with a mid-gate trailer pulling my Harley burns an extra 1/4 tank. Not sure of the trailer weight but the bike is in the range of 500 lbs., I assume my loss is due to wind drag.

I agree with you, but I do not think this is a thread about complaints. Most people that buy a V8 don't buy them for gas mileage. I feel it’s just a bunch of truck owners wanting to know more and daydreaming. :happy160:

I have a 2014 CC 4x4 with 5.7. I pull a 33' Coachman travel trailer, 6400 lbs + gear, and I get anywhere from 7-10 mpg. Without the trailer, according to the on board computer, I got 19 running for one hour at 60 mph. I did not expect any better when pulling the trailer, like one of the earlier posts said, terrain, wind and stop and go has a lot to do with it.
