I'm currently deployed at the moment will be back soon after New Years I have a 2012 Ram 1500 5.7 L Hemi quad cab 4x4 it's been sitting on my base waiting to get drivin again what would be the immediate maintanence I would have to do so there wouldn't be any internal damage? It's below 30 and its snowing where my truck is and it's shy over 30k any suggestions?

Oil change would be number 1, check the rest of the fluids to make sure they are where they need to be. You may want to drive slow and test the brakes a few times to get any surface rust off of the rotors and make sure they haven't froze up. You may need a new battery depending on how long you've been gone, especially if it's really cold. Other than that I can't think of anything.

Oil change should be about $25-30. I'm not sure what dealers charge for brakes.

Wouldn't worry about a tune up but yeah change the oil, might want to go ahead and change air filter too.

Since most all of the oil is in the pan definitely change the oil with new filter. Preferably before you start it. Get the oil, filter and drain pan. Drain it while you look the truck over and possibly change/charge the battery.

Now thinking about it ^^^^that :poop: may be the last thing you want to do when you get back.

Should be good with an oil change. Don't see a need to change air filters unless it's time or shows signs of rotting. If this is something you will do again I recommend unhooking your battery while you're away if no one drives you truck. This will save your battery in the long run. We do the same when storing motorcycles, boats, etc. The brakes will be stiff and will probably need to wear back in a little like mentioned above.

Thanks for your service and I hope you have a happy and safe holiday and return trip home.

Over the past 8 years my truck sits for extended periods of time while I'm overseas. I change the oil and fill the gas tank before leaving it. After I get back I charge the battery and check the fluids. Once back, I keep a eye on everything and change the oil again. Truck has some 65k on it and runs as it should. It is important to fill the gas tank or your gas gauge will corrode and fail.
Thank you for your service....

Not if he's already changed it at some point. Thought the point was because it was sitting for so long not what service it needs at 30k.

Also might add to cycle the parking break a few times and inspect it is working.

See your ASSuming that it's not time but at 30K it should be about time for it's second change.

Now we can go ahead and continue this ******* contest all day if you'd like but it's not helping out our troop!

Dude, once again you're ASSuming! The Troop was asking for suggestions, I have him one and of course you know better told him not too. So dude, there you are in all your brilliance :upyours:

To the OP, sorry for the skirmish with the dude ^^^ but do what you want, if it was me I'd change the air filter, they are cheap and if you have a washable one then it just takes a little bit of time to take care of that.

Stay safe Brother :patriot:

Well for one more post about the air filter. I would at the very least pop the top off the air box and inspect it. Cause of 2 things. 1. Mice in cold weather find any place they can to make an nice warm home and airboxes are perfect for this. 2. IMO anytime you drop oil you check everything else since the hood is up already. Keep your head down and stay safe. Oh and if you have the song "Final Countdown" you should be rocking that everyday as you get out of your rack in the morning.

I apologize for it going this route. But nowhere was I insulting. I was only trying to clarify it didn't need done unless it's time. Wasn't trying to be a "know it all" as has been expressed.

On that note, good luck and thanks again for your service.

I don't know what was wrong with cruizers post. Seemed pretty much a decent post with no hurt against anyone. No need for comments like that back to him. Just look at the filter if its dirty change it. More than likely it will be fine.

Sitting around the only thing I'd be worried about is the battery and fluids.

Didn't have to quote me and then say don't change the filter. YOU may not have taken that as an insult but I DO, if you don't agree then just simply say so, there was NO need to quote me!

and to the other post about pay day, yep it is :party36:
