What does this Gearshift Control Cable Do?

Mine was unplugged and by the dirt looks like it was unplugged a long time. It looks like its a total manual operation with the strap? what does this thing do..? 2018 Ram 1500 V6 automatic transmission

That is the transmission override cable , so it can be put into neutral with the engine not running.

It is normally under a cover on the left of dash knee panel.

Automatic transmission cable, gearshift control cable . One of these is the proper name .

I would look to see if one might be there , doubtful but hope springs eternal.

If your truck is ever disabled and you need to move it, you'll want that thing to work. Otherwise, the tow guy will either drag it against the park pawl or if he's nice dolly the rear tires.

For the most part though, you can ignore it.

Someone may have disconnected it as an Anti-theft deterrent.
